The 2009 military basic pay chart can be found here: http://www.military.com/military/benefits/0,15465,2009-Proposed-Military-Pay,00.html. The numbers along the right hand side (O-) are rank, and the numbers across the top of the page (even numbers) are years of service. You will start as an O-1, unless you are prior enlisted or are entering a certain highly valuable fields such as medicine. Therefore, a newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant or Ensign earns $2655 per month in basic pay.

There are hundreds of special allowances and pays. The most common are BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) and BAS (Basic Allowance for Subsistance.) Other pays and allowances are based upon specific locations, jobs, or skills.

BAH rates can be found using this calculator: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/perdiem/bah.html Officer BAS for 2009 is $223 per month.

Other benefits include medical and dental, life insurance, and unbeatable pension.

Good luck to you!

I'm also looking into becoming an officer and ran the pay numbers.

Starting pay for an officer is a little bit less than $32,000/yr plus benefits--housing and food allowances (or the simple fact that you don't have to pay for those things because you're living on a base/ship) free healthcare, and if you want to go to grad school GI bill money. I worked out that I would be making the equivalent of about $45,000 my first year (based on no longer having to pay my current rent, which is about $9600/yr), and about $67,000 the fourth year. Also I would likely go to law school aferwards and the GI Bill would apparently cover $60-$95k of that (depending on the state). So the pay is actually pretty reasonable.

Assuming you have a 4-year degree and complete a commissioning program such as OCS, ROTC or USMA you will be commissioned a 2LT/Ensign and be paid the following:

Approximately $52,801.87 year

Broken down as:

Base pay: $2655.30 month (taxed)
Housing Allowance (BAH): anywhere from $800-1000.00 month depending on where you are stationed and are not married (not taxed)
Food Allowance: $223.04 month (not taxed)

2LT 32Gs, but they pay for housing and food. Pay increases go up with the amount of time in service and rank.

1LT, CPT, MAJ, LT. COL., COL., GEN., etc...

Hirer you go, the more money you get.

Look at the rank, which pay-grade they are in (E-01, E-02, etc.) and that is how much they make.

there are usually different things (like qualifications you have, dependents, etc.) that might get you a little more

Well Duh!
Pay is dependent on rank. Go to military.com and look at the pay chart for commissioned officers.
