People are saying that the US military will not re-enlist if Obama gets in Office. Is this true?

I was in the Army for for years and I hate Bush. In fact, he was in office when I enlisted. Are people really saying I am not going to re-enlist if Obama gets in to the White House? Additional Details Please spare me of ignorant answers. Thanks

I doubt it. Not everyone in the military likes Bush, and not everyone dislikes him, either... the same with Obama or any other candidate. Some people might opt not to enlist under Obama's tenure if he wins the presidency, sure, but some might opt to re-enlist anyway. Most people re-enlist because of their own reasons, not because of who's in the Oval Office. |

A soldier is a soldier no matter what. We were furious when America elected draft dodging Slick Willie, but we continued to serve. |

It's the same crowd who like to stir the pot in their favor.
Just like people saying they'd move to Canada in 2004 if Bush was reelected.
Take it for what it is; Nothing! |

Commander in Chief is commander in chief. If you hate the man, where does your loyalty lay. I never heard one military person this and I am on active duty on a large post in a division size unit. No one seems to care one way or the other. As long as we don't pull out over night from Iraq and we allowed to finish this thing off correctly. I don't know who you talked to. I heard more grumbling when Clinton was in office. |

Keep in mind the source of who is telling you this are they even in the military? I am an active duty soldier so I can tell that the truth is the majority of the soldiers I know could care less who is in office.
Although there will always be a few guys that base their decision on this, Try to keep in mind that we are here to serve the country and its people not the president.
I can honestly say that it would not affect my decision to reenlist either way and I don't think that it will change anyone else's minds, You either stay in or you get out most of the time you already have your mind made up. |

i wouldn't doubt it. obama is not presidential material which means he is not commander in chief material. ps who is that in the backround of your avatar? |

Certainly NOT as a whole. We take an enlistment oath or Oath of Office (Enlisted and Officers), and we do our JOBS.
I served under Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton... I certainly didn't like President Clinton's POLITICS (or personal life), BUT he was elected and sworn, so I continued to serve.
My oath at THAT time was:
I, SHEP, do solemnly swear, that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
I'm sure there are SOME who won't reenlist, or will resign their commissions... but it will be a TINY percentage. |

well democrats are known for not giving the military the funding that they need and are not good on military raises, so we will see |

Some probably are. I don't think the whole military will not re-enlist. |

Most people who are enlisted don't have the time or inclination to care about that. |

After Obama guts the military you may not have a choice. This was also done under the Clinton administration. Military pay and enlistment bonuses have increased under Bush. Let's see who gets into office first. |

I have never heard that statement. I am sure there are some ignorant people out there who make that statement. In that case I am glad that they will not re-enlist because the military does not need uneducated people. |

I wouldn't doubt it. I was in during Carter and it was pretty bad. I always said I would have never served under clinton and I have even less respect for Obama. |

People say things. Doesn't mean it'll happen. The truth in our situation is that regardless if my husband hated the President or not, he wouldn't leave the service simply because he already has too much time invested. With almost 14 years in the Army now, it would be stupid for him to get out before he retires.
I think most people base thier decision on their individual situation. With the job market these days, and alot of young soldiers with families, a lot of people can't afford to get out, even if they wanted to. So I don't think there will be a huge decrease in the number of reenlistees regardless of who wins the election.
Additionally, I think most people serve because they love thier job. They are proud of who they are and what they do. The aren't going to leave simply because they don't like their new boss.
I have yet to meet a soldier who has based their decision to reenlist or not on who is in office. |

This statement is doubtful.
If anything, people who are already in the military now are getting out for better reasons. Like not wanting to wind up like the military wounded who are fighting for their medical rights today after spending time in Bush's wars.
That's right. Nothing has changed in the VA, folks. |

Yes, ALL members of the military will not re-up if Obama is president, which will force the country to reenact a draft, which will turn 2009 into 1969 all over again. He will lose support in 2012 and not get reelected. Ronnie Reagan will turn over in his grave and Jeb Bush will win the presidency. Making the first father and sons president in US history. |
