Picking a job at air force bmt, how does it work?

I am shipping in 10 days, I am going in as g64 which qualifies me for alot of jobs, the few that I am interested in are 1. imagery analysis 2. computer networking 3. diagnostic imaging. but I'm open minded and I just want to know, do they let you choose from a list of jobs they actually have? or is it just guessing like when your at meps?

If I recall, you and your fight will go somewhere where you determine your job. You will make a list, your #1 being what you want most. Now, some people in your flight will already be guaranteed a job and they are set to go. For people that come in "open general", that's basically telling the Air Force "i'll take anything that's available". I came in "open mechanical" which means anything in the mechanical field. This is pretty broad though. Many jobs are in this field. Everything I put down on my list had to do with working on aircraft.....fighter crew chief, cargo crew chief, metal, fuels, paint...I found out a short time later I was selected as a plumber for the Civil Engineer Squadron....something I had no desire to ever do. Way off from working on aircraft. But, I got used to it and it's not too bad...So, it's really where the Air Force needs you. |

Are you open general? mechanic? admin? or electronics?
all I can remember is at MEPS you either pick a specific job or you go open in 1 of 4 fields and the air force picks your job based on your ASVAB score.
I went in with a guaranteed job so there wasn't much for me to do in BMT. |

If there's a job that you definitely want make sure you get it before you go to basic. Otherwise they'll pick a job for you (which probably means that you'll be an SP, Security Police). |
