Please military soldiers answer is there a cheaper way to talk with soldiers in iraq?

Please listen to all of the above responses, it could very well be a SCAMMER. My husband deployed 2 times, we never had to shell out that kind of money. He usually would buy calling cards that he gotten through the hodgie stores. If he didn't feel like buying cards or standing in line to use the phone, we just used our mic's through yahoo messenger, our web cams, and even skype,, which is all free.

Just to give you a taste of how heartless and money driven scam artists can be: there was a scammer 4 yrs ago, calling all of the wives on base, telling them that there husbands were wounded down range, and for a small fee, he could set up were they could be taken there immediatly, without all the red tape, and that he worked for the Red Cross. One lady received a call, from the same people, claiming her husband died!! Told her for a fee, she could his life insurance benefits that same evening!! Her husband was perfectly fine, all these men were fine....you can imagine the emotional damage these people caused.

they could talk through IM, Skype or he has MWR calls he can use (for real Soldiers) What you describe is a scam and total BS. Hope she has not spent any money .

I would not do that. tell her to use skpe. Its free u can see them and hear them. I think that is a scam. He may not even be a soldier!

That is a total scam. Tell her not to do it. He can get a phone card and use it over there. Or, since most of them have internet in their rooms now, you can use any IM service (yahoo, skype, etc) and do video chat completely free.

I never paid anything..... I used free phones as MWR or phone cards family sent......and free AOL IM (with video cam) and Facebook for communication with my wife..

Never send anything to anyone you meet on MySpace. I highly doubt he is a soldier. He is scamming her. Tell her not to be desperate and don't fall for it.

SAT Phones are expensive but not as expensive as the service. I maintain Irridiums and received bills for $2.25 for less than 1 minutes call. I would not recommend not purchasing SAT type phones for normal chit chat conversations.

Skype may not work in his particular area. Even if he has access to the internet, he may not be allowed to use Skype at his location due to bandwidth issues. IM'ing will be your cheapest route. MWR phone calls are usually limited as far as how long you can talk and the lines can get very long.

Just get Skype. Runs on your computer and if they have a computer, than you can just talk for free.

tell her not to do it. this is definitely a scam no doubt. my brother is a Marine and my bf is an Airman and there is way easier ways to talk; via email, internet, etc. my favorite way is over webcam cause you get to see their face and hear their voice. chances are he prob isnt even a soldier and if he is in iraq he would have a laptop with him so he can get on the internet and use a webcam.

Thats bull, he can use the DSN lines and call to the USA FOR FREE..... DO NOT DO THAT... I HATE PEOPLE WHO SCAM USING THE MILITARY AS A CRUTCH. TELL THE DUDE TO USE THE DSN LINE IF HE WANTS TO CALL HER
