Hey guys,
If you were in a room containing typical medical equipment, what weapon would you use to fight off intruders?
I'm looking for something bigger than a scalpel.
Note: I am not crazy. I'm writing a novel, and my prologue is about a man trapped in a medical bay surrounded by aliens. Don't ask :)
Also, I'm aware that this is probably in the wrong category, but I couldn't decide on one to put it in, so I settled for the suggested category. I'll have more random questions like this, so if someone could also suggest a category, that would help a lot.

That depends on what sort of "medical bay" you are referring to. Several things larger then a scalpel come to mind. If your protagonist has the skills then then the power cords for medical equipment, especially if one end still has some weight to it, becomes a very effective weapon. Not exactly bigger than a scalpel but often medical rooms will have common supplies including chemical disinfectants. These make extremely effective weapons when sprayed into the face and eyes/nostrils. Bedpans, parts from the hospital bed, examination stools, chairs, etc. all make effective impromptu clubs. Similar to the power cords, bedding can be an effective flexible weapon that can deflect attacks, catch limbs, choke an attacker, and temporarily blind/distract them (think of a bull fighter with his cape), etc. An ER will have even more fun tools of mayhem close at hand because of the necessity of having all the equipment to perform emergency surgery. Access to drugs with everything from debilitating to lethal effects is also readily available in an ER. |

Plenty of glass devices in a treatment room. Also flammable liquids, small oxygen cylinders, disposable scalpels, injection needles, possibly flammable liquids. |
