Here's something to think about. The actual reason why the Brits are the often victims of friendly fire is that they are not very good at coordinating with other forces.
I have heard many accounts of how the Brits were in places where they were not supposed to be, and paid the price for their laziness or stupidity.
As far as the Brits being the best man for man, what is the basis for this? They have not been able to prove any real competency in over 100 years. In Iraq they were assigned the least dangerous area in the country and only did a middling job of it.
The Americans are having to step things up in Afghanistan after the coalition countries made a mess of the progress that had been achieved.
I'm afraid the British are the only ones impressed by their military. |

What happened when a bunch of US farmers took on the professional British military? Also in 1812 the US kicked their asses again. ww2, the US bailed them out after the Nazi's steamrolled them. |

Firstly, it's a silly question. America commands nato for starters and we aren't that popular in europe to warrant their assistance in such a scenario. But having lived in the US since the sixties and being familiar with their massive military resources Worldwide, there is no comparison, And let's not forget that in today's newspaper headlines, it states that half the uk army wants to resign.! So morale ain't good.!America would win hands down. Not because of better training,etc. but sheer resolve and they would do it with a humorous smile, one hand tied behind and a wink.! |

The United States is the greatest military power in the world. In a potential war the U.S. could overwhelm them with troops relatively quickly or just blow the whole country to pieces in a few minutes with a few nukes. |

being from Ireland, of course i would support the US, but the brits aint to shabby, with 20 vs 10 odds obviously the US would win, but if the numbers were better, its pretty much fifty-fifty |

Everyone Making Great Points but Imagine if this happened 5 years from now .... if the European Union Was Getting Closer nd Closer to Joining there militarys together ,..... the rest of europe wouldnt stand and watch as Britain Gets Involved In Conflict With The US ....
I Mean At First They`d Try To Prevent Any War .... Push If push goes to shove, it`ll be an all out contenant war!
So If Everyone Played fair and left the nukes out of this ....The UK Would "Suff Them" ... With The Help Of Their European Buddies |

We all loose! we hold the Nukes for the USA so we could nuke them with their own bombs.
To be honest though even in Iraq the Brits loose a lot of lives to the USA due to friendly fire. (not very friendly really is it)
The Brits might beat the USA in the war but then what? we would be without fuel, steel, medical supplies etc.
I think with Mr Bush and his amazing aptitude for geography France would be fooked as they would get bombed instead of us.

It depends. The US has a larger population and bigger military yet a lot of what the US knows, they learned from the Brits. Does The British has the support of other big players such as the EU, China, Russia or some other rival nation of the like or are on their own? If the UK was on its own without allies, it would be crushed quickly. However I doubt the US would be able to hold down the British population when they revolt against their authority ( the British have a long tradition of bucking would be invading nation from their homeland and proved to be remarkably resilient.) If the UK politically isolated the US and had allies on its side, I can see it becoming a bloody and long war with the US eventually being worn out and have the yanks spend their ability to support such an effort.
The only reason I can see the US invading the UK is as a staging point for a further campaign against main land Europe in order to invade and take it over. Which I do not see happening any time soon for there is not a reason to do so.
The last time this happened was WW2 when the US used the British isles as staging point to invade Nazi controlled Europe and to stage D day. If Britain was conquered by the Germans before the US came, I doubt the allies would have won. |

Unfortunately wars don't get fought by soldiers any more. The US could bomb the UK to bits in a few hours.
I agree that British ground troops are probably better - should get a few points knocked off for that :-) |

Anyway if ameica used nukes they would win then afterwards be invaded by many european countries involved in NATO.
The largest army in the world is owned be China then followed by India. Without NUKES i think the UK could possibly win. |

Ron g , 1812? The British burned washington down - ever wandered why the White house is white, its beacuse of a quick white washing job, a monument to American weakness.
Average British soldier vs. average American soldier.... British soldier i think, we train our men for years, and turn away more than we accept, they get snow, desert, urban etc. training, the Americans are short on all that.
The SAS are the most feared force in the world, the entire SAS could beat the US special forces (i think).
But realistically they'd just bomb and nuke us off the map, we'd respond with a nuclear strike. Everybody loses... |

The US marines are a bunch of phycos and would probably kill half their own men in the first hour, don't get me wrong the US marines are great but have no brains at all. I think the Royal Marines would win as they are all higher trained and are very tactical. |

But the US has 5 times as many people as the UK and much more firepower, so in real life they'd win. |
