Question about getting an apt near US Naval Base in Norfolk,VA...?

I just got my orders to an amphib ship in Norfolk,VA. Im moving my wife and son there too. Looking for the best area in VA to live and the closest to base or best area to avoid traffic. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time.

A lot of families live in surrounding areas of Norfolk, such as Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. My grandfather and my god father both work on base in Norfolk, and they both live in Virginia Beach, close to Chesapeake. I would consider moving to VA Beach or Chesapeake.

Little Creek would be the best option for avoiding traffic and being close to the base in a decent area that is reasonably priced. Second best option is V beach, but the rents are higher and the commute is longer. Third choice would be Chesapeake, the rents are lower than V beach, but the commute is longer.

You don't evan want to consider Norfolk or Portsmith. High crime areas is the reason why the rents are cheapest there. It's no place to raise a kid.
