Question about the Royal marines and the SAS !!!?

I'M goin to join the royal marines soon and hopfully pass my main goal in life is to join the SAS but u need 5 years service ect can royal marines apply for the SAS after 5 years or can they only go inot the special boat service.

the part i dont like about the special boat service is been stationed on boats alot i know the marines get stationed on boats too , also i dont like diving and navigating underwater . i know the marines are water based but they also do land activity and usually use the water for coatal assult and raids

SBS is harder to get into but the majority of SAS applicants come from the paras ... somthing like 80%

Most royal marines go into the SBS because they are best suited to that role (from training) and already pretty elite themselves and most paras form the SAS since there so fit also pretty elite compared to the rest of the army! But if your mentally tough enough to pass the selection you can join which ever one you like m8 you get to choose but you only get one attempt!

First of all, focus on actually getting into the RM before deciding what you want to do once your in.

both SAS & SBS do the same pre selection SF course, as for which to join they both have + and - sides to them. from my point of view SBS seem to be the more secretive as they have not had the same press coverage as the SAS ie Iranian Embassy siege. this means nothing as they both are the best in the world. By all means go RM but remember many attempt many fail only the lucky pass 1st time.
For me 148bty offers the best of both worlds.

Well the SAS is great and everything but I'd imagine that the SBS get the same training but more in water based combat making them more elite I think. You can join the SAS from the marines but they normally join the SBS because after five or so years in the royal marines you won't mind the water as much as you do now.

marines do serve in the SAS but the majority of marines try out for SBS. the majority of para's try out for SAS. The marines are an elite fighting force themselves.

i think anyone going into the forces with dreams of being in the sas is in for a major shock, just concentrate on getting into the royal marines and get fit! recruit drop out rates for the RMC is around 55 - 60% good luck you will need it! if you want this enough you will achieve your goals
