my boyfriend is going intot he marines this June. i know that he goes to bootcamp for 12 weeks, then he comes home for 10 days.
After that, he goes off to SOI (school of infantry) for a year, right?
Then what happens after that?

He will be going to be at SOI for about 2-3 months...depending on what exactly he is to be doing. You have to count the adminstrative processing time upon arrival, the assignment to barracks, issuement of T/E (table of equipment....their combat gear), the induction into a training platoon, then the training begins...count the time frame from there. Then they graduate, turn T/E back in, assignment from barracks, and admin outprocess, with orders to whereever the Corps needs them.
There are different specialties that go to SOI, either he is going to an Infantry Training Battalion [ITB] (if in Infantry), or Marine Combat Training [MCT] (if he is not Infantry). |

After his 10 days he leaves for SOI and this will happen..
--If his job is infantry then he will go to infantry school for two months and after that he goes to his unit and lives happily ever after if he is active duty, or if he is reserve duty then after his school he comes homes to live happily ever after.
--If his job is NOT infantry then he goes to MCT at SOI for about one month, then after that he attends his job school which varies in length from one month, to one year. After school is over he goes to his unit. |
