There will be a lot of people who will not like my answer, but her it is. The war on terror needs to be carried to the people causing the problems. For example, if a country is supplying weapons to the insurgents in Iraq or elsewhere, then we need to locate those warehouses and destroy them. If there are people playing war games in the sand, and they are not a known military group, then destroy them. Any money in any bank that is positively funding the terrorists should be confiscated.

We have declared war on terror. Any terrorist group anywhere should be sought out and destroyed. I would not matter what country they are in. You do a "black operation" or a smart bomb or cruise missile. If the world don't like it, they can kiss our donkey.

I'm tired of these punk radicals wanting to hate. If I had the power, I would show them hate to the extreme. People don't have to like others. But, this does not give anyone the right to blow up buildings and people. If that is the type of life style they want, I think we should give it them.

How many civilians have died in the name of Allah or whoever? You can put down your arms and live in peace, or fight and die.

I think we are winning the war on terror and I say to keep it up. We cannot afford to let them win, period.

The war Iraq was about terror in the beginning but after Saddam was deposed we all got involved in nation building which probably should be something the UN does, if it really existed and it seems not. We certainly are engaged with combat against terror cells and Al Quida is obviously there and taking credit for many of the bombings and losing many soldiers too. Terror organizations that are not state sponsored are hard pressed by cash and munitions and it is possible to wear them out. The US effort to freeze assets has been very successful. It is time to disengage from Iraq and let them sink or swim though its clear that Syria and Iran have a hand in most of the problems in Iraq and will probably fund a civil war there so that they can control Iraq. The insurgents now could have overthrown Saddam if they had chosen to do so, it was not difficult but they did not whicfh means that they had a vested interest in him staying in power indicating that he sponsored the terrorists for external action. They are active now in Iraq. I think it has been difficult but worthwhile. Out of office politicians take the opposite position but in the US we are aware that the Democratic Party was intrumental in commiting to the war. President Bush went to war with a majority vote in a Democratic controlled Congress. Now, we are supposed to forget that. If we have a Dem President in the next election he will have to continue the war on terror as he would be hounded from office if another strike occurred here and he was not taking every possible avenue to hunt down the terrorists organization. Australia rocks and Americans love the Aussie and always have.

The U.S. shouldn't pull out no more than the U.S. should do nothing if China took over Australia. The U.S. is still in Europe even thoug the Cold war has been over for 20 years and the U.S. is still in South Korea even though it's been 50 years and South Korea is much stronger than North Korea.

I think the U.S. is starting to show much progress in Iraq. The Iraqi soldiers and police are better trained and violence in Iraq has fallen 70% from last year. According to the U.S. CIA online fact book, the death rate per 1,000 is twice as high in Germany as it is in Iraq (2006 numbers). It's also more dangerous, according to the death rate, in France and the U.S.

In Afganistan, it's going to be harder since Pakistan is so far a no go zone which allows the enemy sancturary. So far the Taliban have been fairly weak and been able to do more talking than action.

The most efficient war on terror would be a war that none of us would ever even hear about or know about. It would be a war that is fought using covert operations, special forces, and carried out with such precision that none of us would even know what was going on half the time!

Most Americans and people around the world think we should pull out. But who wouldn't right? Our troops are dying out there and not only Americans but soldiers from the U.N. and NATO as well. The biggest reason too being that we aren't seeing any obvious progress. It seems like we are in the same place we were when the war started. However here is the reason we are there, if we don't bring the fight to them, they will bring the fight to us. Not only that, the war itself has raised out security measures so high, we have stopped many terrorists attacks on America and other countries. The war has its benefits and detriments, it's really just a matter of opinion which one outweighs the other.

The problem is that we can't stay their forever, and the government needs to take control at some point. But It just isn't going very well. The Government has not shown initiative to take over its own counrty, and we are still keeping the peace. I think this will be just like Somalia. When we pull out, the government will be overthrown and civil war between sunni and shia will ensue. But I think the government has been given enough chances to take over their country and we should just leave, and let them deal with the fact that they didn't take advantage of our help to begin with.

In my opinion, pulling out now is absolutely the worst thing we could do. The war has started and we absolutely MUST see it through or else we will be a bigger target than we ever were.

This war will go on for many years. We must be patient.

We need to pull out NOW. OK Mutada al Sadr will take over. He may hate us but he hates Al Quieda more. We have turned Iraq into a killing field as bad as Pol Pots Cambodia and haven't a clue how to win.
If we are not there the majority Shiites will win and the foriegn fighters will leave.

Well,51% of Americans think we should wave the white flag
and pull out as people are getting killed (that usually happens
in every war). 49% of Americans think we should stay the course
until Iraq can take over for themselves to keep the terrorists
from taking over their neighborhoods and country. They want
"peace" just like you Australians and us Americans have. In
a war, no one has a promise who will succeed.

This is a very good question. A foreigner might look at America and think that we all want to pull out, because that is what our media outlets are saying. The majority of Americans want to finish our job. Our efforts in Iraq have been hindered by members of the Democrat party who stand to gain by disagreeing with our president. They have voted down supplies for our troops, etc. We have also been hindered by Iraqi President Maliki's unwillingness to fight Irani nationals who are causing chaos in Baghdad. Finally, our President has overcome our Congress and sent more torrps in. If the Democrats do not remove funding from the war, which they have threatened to do, I feel real hope for victory. We would also appreciate Australia's help wherever and whenever it has been given. You are great allies.

we presented the iraqis with a great opportunity to establ;ish a great country, including funding to rebuild their infrastructure and everything.

the iraqi's, though not all of them, seem they do not want to take this advantage.

so i say leave, and let them go at it with each other.

i think the war on terror is a good way to take freedoms away. what a great concept! a war that can never be resolved, so they will forever be able to invade our privacy. i am an American, and i love the concepts of our country, but not our present actions.

It was a crappy idea to begin with. Just because someone does something to you doesn't mean you have to do it back. We also don't have near as much funding as we need for it.

Also, if people want democracy, they need to do it themselves. It isn't our place to tell others what to do, and by doing so, we create even MORE enemies. So yes, we would be better off just pulling out and admitting that the idea was bad. And if Iraq can't hold its own, that isn't our problem. We should put that tax money into housing our own, feeding our own and educating our own.
