Question for Army ROTC Graduates?

I'm an ROTC cadet and had a question for Army ROTC graduates. How well do you think the ROTC program prepared you for the "real" Army? Do you think it was worth participating in in the long run? I'm not going to quit ROTC, I am just curious what previous cadets have to say about the program.

As a prior enlisted soldier/NCO who went through ROTC on a Greed-to-Gold scholarship I can say that ROTC prepares you as well as any other commissioning source. I have also trained Cadets at USMA.

Depending on your school, you actually receive more "military" related training over an average ROTC career than cadets do at USMA.

In a lot of ways you will not realize until later, ROTC prepares you for the "real" Army.

Nothing really prepares a soldier for the real army other than being in the real army. The best thing to do is to listen to your instructors and seek out advice from instructors who have had real troop leading time. When you are commissioned, pay attention to the Officer Basic Course (they may call it something different now). When you are assigned to your first unit, listen to your NCOs. They usually try to square away new LTs and they will have alot more experience than you do. Historically, ROTC has produced good officers who have gone on to become great leaders. The true test of a lt is not so much their training, but rather their character. Great leaders and fools have gone through ROTC, OCS, Direct Commissioning programs, and the Academy. Good luck.
