Formal occasion (think grown-up prom) but dancing, food, etc. will vary widely from one ball to another. Most will have the birthday ball program, flags, music, guest speaker, reading of the original birthday message, video or reading of message from current commandant, cake cutting, presentation of pieces to speaker, oldest and youngest Marines present, followed by a sit down dinner, and then dancing.
