I was wondering what the routine is for the summer directly after high school Graduation. Do we attend a short Basic Training during that period or do we only go to orientation and take our PT tests.
Please Please Please do not copy and paste from a website or post a link. I have read at least 20 NROTC related sites in the past year, but I still can't find the answer to my very simple question.
Additional Details
Are we sent to Mountain Warfare Training without any Basic Training, or do we go through an elongated version of it during freshman year?

I did nothing for the summer between HS and Freshman college.
Went to orientation and started classes.'
I had my physical in the NROTC building and was sent to town - right now, to get some teeth filled.
The started classes.
The second summer as different. We took a 6 week cruise on USS Roanoke. Busy every summer thereafter. It was worth it. |

okay so i think you are right in that you have to do a PT test. but i don't think you have to start the actual training until school starts. you should try talking to a recruiter in your area, or emailing the DoDMERB, Larry Mullen: Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil.
he is fantastic. he will get back to you in literally less than one day. he specializes in the service academies, but i asked him about NROTC for myself and he got back to me in 3 hours! |

The summer before you go to school is yours. You may have an orientation a week or so before but other than that you have nothing. At orientation you will get issued your uniforms and stuff but you don't go through anything. All the summer training you do afterward like CORTRAMID and MWS you do with other MIDN. OCS you do with MECEPS and thats the intense summer. Depending on the unit your orientation may be different but I'm assuming they all just introduce you and nothing much more. Thats what the school year is for. A word of advice run a lot! |
