How does Ranger School or RIP work. I want to earn my Ranger tab what do I have to do in order to achieve this. Im prior service Marine Infantry so I apologize if this question if it seems a bit retarded but I know nothing about how the Army works.
Im Reenlisting here soon and I always wanted to earn my Ranger Tab but I also want to serve over seas in germany or italy. Do I have to serve in a Ranger Battalion or can I attend Ranger school or RIP and get station in another unit afterwards ???
Also what are some of the things physically I can do in order to get ready if I decide to go Ranger ??

Its gonna be hard for a prior service to be assigned to the Rangers.
Rangers like to grow their own NCO's.
But if your an E-4, after you get to your unit, you can apply for the Rangers.
The problem your gonna run into, is by the time you have enough time on station to actually get orders, you won't be an E-4 any longer.
And only E-4 and below can get into the Rangers thru RIP.
The other option, is after your in your unit, wrangle a slot in Ranger School.
Most divisions have pre Ranger courses you have to take first, and they only give the slots to those who have passed the pre ranger courses.
Of course then you have to try and get a Ranger School slot over someone who has been in the Army awhile, if you were a commander, who would you choose, the soldier who has been in your unit since OSUT or the ex Marine who has been there 6 months ?
But if you get a Ranger School slot, then you can apply for a Ranger assignment, you have to go before the Ranger Board, if passed there , you then attend ROP Ranger Orientation program.
Ranger School does not make you a Ranger, it is a Combat Leadership School.
The only way into the Ranger regiment is thru RIP or ROP. |

First, you must contact your Recruiter and ask for a Ranger Contract.
Candidates must pass a stringent orientation course before selection to Ranger School. While there, they'll face the kinds of physical and mental challenges that will serve as a foundation for membership in to one of the Army's elite combat units.
To become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment you must begin with the nine weeks of Basic Training. Upon completion of Basic Training you will then attend Advanced Individual Training to obtain a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). This training varies in length depending on the selected MOS. Next you must complete Airborne training. Upon graduation of Airborne School you will be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment to attend the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP).
If you pass each of the required training schools and RIP, you will receive an assignment to either the 75th Ranger Regiment Headquarters or one of the three Ranger Battalions.
60% Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in the 17 to 21 age group
-5-mile run at no slower than 8 minutes per mile
-Successful completion of Combat Water Survival Test (CWST) must be able to complete 15 meters in BDU's, boots and LBE
-Must complete 2 of 3 road marches, one of which must be a 10-mile road march
-70% on all exams
Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) begins when the Ranger Liaison picks up the Ranger candidates at Airborne School - just after graduation - to immediately begin the program.
The program is designed to instruct and select, from a pool of candidates in grades E-1 to E-4, those suitable for service in the 75th Ranger Regiment. The four week program consists of physical training and continuous preparation for service in the Regiment. It is important that each candidate be familiarized with operational procedures, equipment and the standards of the Regiment prior to their assignment.
1. Search your heart and your psyche. Rangers are warriors. Rangers are trained to face highly dangerous and stressful combat actions. Ranger training will require the utmost in courage, physical stamina and self-discipline.
2. Develop your body - run for endurance, train with weights, become a proficient swimmer.
3. Keep yourself in top physical and mental condition.
4. Familiarize yourself with military history, Ranger history, politics and international relations. |

Ranger Batt right now is hurting for people bad. Af since he is a Prior service Marine NCO, he he still keeps his stripes, he could get to a unit, contact the rangers and set up an appointment to talk to them. If he gets unit approval he would attend ROP ( Ranger Orientation Program) NCO's do not go to RIP. after you finish RIP, you head to your batt to train for ranger school. |
