Hey i'm planning on joining the army rangers in 1 1/2 years. I am 6'0" and weigh 172 lbs. I am somewhat fit (max push up amount is 40 and max sit up is 50) and I want to go into the army for boot then apply for the rangers after wards. Any tips/Plans that could help me out?

Oh i also need to get over my fear of heights any tips for that too?

Well, any balanced diet that gets you your necessary nutrition will keep you on pace.
As for exercise, you'll definitely want to strengthen yourself all around. Look up cross fit training programs. Review the Army PT guides like FM 21-20 and FM 3-22_20 that is replacing it.
You are under the minimum Army standards so look at the APFT chart for your age group and shoot for 100s in each category. For you that would be 71 push ups in 2 minutes, 78 sit ups in 2 minutes, and run 2 miles in 13 minutes.
Since you didn't mention your run time, it's hard to advise.
As for heights, that's a psychological fear. Work onit a little at a time. Face it and get over it. I was in basic training with a guy who had a fear of heights and he froze on many occasions becoming the butt of many jokes. One drill sergeant told me to shake the rope ladder we were on because he was holding everyone up and he was screaming his head off. |
