Pep talks don't work, this boy wants answers. Are there any legal ways to get out once you're there?

If he wants the easy way out all he has to do in boot camp is refuse to train. After a week or two they will start the paperwork on a "failure to adapt" discharge and he will be sent home. Usually though this process takes time and once done he can never get back in the military. He will also find it very hard to get any civil job. Graduation is the fastest way off the depot. As long as he sticks by his guns and refuses to train they will discharge him. Once he hits his 6 month mark in the military then it become a whole other can of worms if he refuses to train. The military feels that 6 months in more then enough time to adapt and if he refuses to train after that they will just throw him in the brig for insubordination and upon discharge he could face a bad conduct discharge which is the same as a felony. Not that i condone his actions...he signed the paper 4 years is not a long time to serve, and he will more then likely regret his actions for the rest of his life. |

What did he think Marine Corps boot camp was like? Boy Scouts? Tell him to sack up and finish. He is half way there. He will be extremely proud and have a ton of confidence in himself when he is handed that Globe and Anchor and is told by his D.I., "well done, Marine!". |

damned near ever recruit wants out at this time. if he could tough it up for the next few weeks he will be home free. but if he wants to wash out he needs to see the c.o. and explain why he can't perform. Marines are born to be, the rest are trained to be Marines and then they raise Marines.
too bad you have raised a non-Marine.
just for your info, i have seen the most milky-toast wieners
come to be great Marines. it was never said it would be easy, but this is the Marines. Semper fi . |

Using the chain of command., ask to see the co ,and have him tell the CO he just isn't man enough to see it through. The CO will start procedures for a dischaharge, but I promise you it won't be the kind of discharge he will be proud of. |

Everybody with any sense wants out halfway through! They do that on purpose to separate the wheat from the chaff. Legally, no he can't get out. He signed a valid contract. Illegally, yes, but I won't go into that. If he still wants out when he graduates, they have programs for that but he will never be allowed to join any branch of the military and he won't respect himself, either. |

What a coincidence! 50 years ago today, Elvis Presley was drafted.
He considered it his duty to report, and so he did.He wanted to be like any other soldier, no special treatment, he became a Sargent, an went on to receive an honorable discharge.
While he was there, he spent a lot of his off duty time working on his singing, with the permission and delight of his superiors.
See, there are some who have what it takes. |

Halfway through and wants out. He needs to sit down and think about the consequences of his actions if he leaves now. If he tries to quit then he is pretty much screwed because he will have difficulty getting a job. Let him know that it is going to get easier after Recruit Training. |

I'm not 100% positive, but I think there is some paperwork he can fill out. I think it might be called an administrative discharge. |
