Recruiter asking him to lie?

OK if you can join with a GED or without (hmm??) why not just say you have one? I am not seeing the logic in this. I am not seeing why he would not want to tell he had a GED? Seems as if maybe some details are not here.

Recruiters often tell their new joins to lie once they get to MEPS because they want to meet their quotas. Minor medical conditions can be overlooked but I'm not sure about a GED. If you can't find out from YahooAnswers, try to speak to another recruiter from a different branch. Good luck.

Lying to the military is never a good idea. I'd find another recruiter and see if you have any options. You can't "undo" a GED and it would come up. Lying on your enlistment is creating a big can of worms and can make for lots of problems beyond the other charge he has.

Tell him to check out the Army Reserve. GED's are allowed there and he could transition to active service after a while.

First off you are right to be skeptical. Be honest as it will always catch up with you in the end. However, your husband is probably not qualified at all now due the new restrictions that have just been implemented. I would go to the recruiters station commander or a different station altogether. Right now an individual with a GED or without a GED and no high school diploma is not eligible for a moral waiver of any kind and they have to score at least a 50. Good luck to you and your husband. But military might not be an option for him.

I dont understand why they would'nt allow him to have a GED. Tell them he does have one. No one is gonna reject him because of a GED. See a different recruiter!

The recruiter is setting your husband up for failure and you should report what he is doing to the state headquarters. You can find them on the web, just google your home state & national guard ( "Florida National Guard" for example.)

same situation happened to a co-worker of mine. he was told to lie about a charge he had against him. it was basically omitted. although the recruiter knew about it. he passed the first basic steps to join and then was told he was not eligible. he was not charged but he did waste his time. the only reason i can see why they would do something like that is to either a) see if he/she gets by and it helps add numbers to the military or b) it helps fill the quotas of people recruited. because he was recruited, just did not meet requirements. so for the recruiter is still a win.
