Reenlist for 4 more years in the Marines for 45 grand, E-6, orders and only one more trip to Iraq? Any advice?

If you have to ask this question, you already know the answer. Deep down you don't want to reenlist. You have served and sacrificed enough. It's time to get back to your family, going to bars, cutting the lawn, getting stuck in traffic on the way to work etc. You will always be a Marine, no matter what. If what I just said does not convince you, consider this. The $45,000 for the additional 4 years commitment breaks down to $11,250 per year, $937.00 a month, $234.00 per week, and $ 33.42 per day. Only that paltry amount for you to be sitting in a sandbox for another year? Don't think so !!!

im planning to join the service myself and i will voulenteer to go to iraq im 17 but will attend ROTC first

so really its up to you.. and just thanks for serving for our country and i would do it. BUT ITS UP TO YOU

if you only have a few more years until retirement i would stay in and hope for the best. put the 45 grand into some stockmarket funds or CD's and retire way early....
try to get a rear job but then i don't know how many times you have been there and if you have dependents..... lot's of thinking to do.....

we are staying in but it is only 2 more years til retirement,but then what is all the money in the world and retirment when you can't enjoy it. god bless

Spend it wisely because each time you ship over, you increase the probability that you may return, but not necessarily with all your parts !

Having said that, I wish you well ! Hopefully they'll be calling you 'gunny' on the way back . Semper Fidelis !

I am a military spouse,my husband served 4 yrs in the core! and then did one year army national guard,and is currently in the Active Army!..i saw your question and had to give you thought from the heart!...It all depends on your situation Marine!..and the number one question to think about is are you happy being a Marine?..is this who you are?...you know the consequences and all that come with being United States Marine!...are you happy?..thats what i told my husband when he asked me this same question!...is this who you are?..and he said yes!..but he joined the army because its less demanding and stressful on our family (we have two babies)..and it was hard converting.. lol from the "marines" but was the best decison for our family because as you know the core is tough!..but you get the same benefits and sign on bonus plus the army has more job opportunities...so think about that..and if you are married..i'm sure your wife respects your decision! it's a hard desison to make but worth looking at all options! but if you do have a family as one former USMC lover to another i would say check out the army if you want all the same beneifits but a relaxer enviornment for your family...you just might like it in the long run!..and may get a better MOS than you have now!..whatever you chose!! it all comes down to ...What makes you Happy!..thanks for the time you have served with us whatever you chose! it means the world to alot of people such as me and my family..even though i don't know you..i know you are a marine there for if you needed anything i would be there just like many of us out here!!..i know i would because i have much love for you and our military!...thats why i married one!! it's the best feeling in the world!..and even though we all sacrifice alot we are the ones truely blessed!!..because we know the value of time that we do or don't get to spend with one another..and thats the best feeling in the world!..thank you again!! you are truely loved and respected!!..with love, usmc/army wife, Rebecca

It depends. How do you really feel about going back to Iraq? Are you married and if so how does the wife feel about this? that is alot of money and a jump in rank. Were you planning on staying in or getting out?

Only you can make this decision. But congrats on serving our country either way

Stop Loss is no more in in the Marine Corps..went out a couple years ago...you are getting SSgt...and a bonus...Pfft..I would do it in a second...Been in the Corps for 13.5 years...

Semper Fidelis...oh..and depending on how long you have been in...the "downhill slide" to retirement is not that far off :)

My hubby and I are talking about him re-upping for 6 years. If you plan to stay in for a career then go for it.

yeah. don't believe everything they tell you. you're going to do more than one trip to iraq. it's called stop loss. and all the money in the world isn't going to do you any good if you get killed.
