Agreed. Nobody should be drafted, I think all wars should be decided by the rulers of the countries in a ring, either death match style or mud wrestling. Although if it was death match style they might not be so pumped to start more pointless wars. |

no, i dont believe there should be a draft. if anyone gets into military service then that should be because they volunteered to go.
thats my opinion. |

ok. so when do you think someone should be legally considered an adult and take on adult responsibilities?

I agree with shadow, however I prefer the paintball approach. Is it really nessasary to KILL someone? I mean come on?! I'm not disordered here. Maybe some hockey style fights out there, you know throw of the gloves and beat the _ _ _ _ out of them. But death? What's wrong with this picture? Tell g-d I'm slacking off. And the draft? Who cares the government doesn't work for the people anyways. Bush? Come on. Certain disaster. |

In the eyes of the law, they are children at 16, adults at 18. I think 18 is even a little young to join volunterily, but they are considered adults at that age and can do as they please. 16 is to young to be drafted in my opinion. At least by 18 most people have completed highschool. If the draft is every re-instated i doubt seriously they would take children that young. |

There is a debate over whether 16 year olds are old enough to drive. 18 yr olds aren't responsible enough to be trusted w/alcohol, but they're old enough to "die for their country"?
If They reinstate the draft, they should work from the top down. Bush children first, then the cheney kids, next the pelosi's..... |

Nobody should be drafted. If I was trading gunfire with an enemy, I sure as heck wouldn't want someone guarding my back who didn't want to be there. |

No 16 year olds should not be drafted, because as you say they're still children. In the USA 18 year olds are considered adults. |

And when did this happen? What draft are you talking about?
And the whole concept of volunteering is that it is a choice freely made by the individual concerned. Neither you,nor anyone else, has the right to gainsay that choice. |

If they can drive they can shoot a gun. |

16 year olds, experience tells us, are a bit too bloodthirsty and impetuous. 18 year olds can be trained to be professionals. And these guys are that, not trigger-happy cannon fodder as so many seem to think. |

I'm with Blah.
Also, I don't think we should send another soldier until the Bush twins are drafted and go. |

Yes Let our American boys come home. 16 year old and even younger defended our country in the American Revolution. There is no reason Iraq Kids should not defend their country too.

If they are not going to school, reproducing and living off the government, then "hell yea". |

16 year olds by law cannot be drafted. 18 year olds can be because as defined by law they are adults. Since we do not have a draft, as of now no one needs to worry about it. 17 year olds can enlist (volunteer) if they have a parent or guardian sign for them. Since my kids are not even close to that age I don't know if I would sign for them or not. I would have to talk to them and know what their motivation for enlisting was and discuss other options and what their plans for their futures were.
And before you accuse me of being willing to send my kids off to die, no I do not want my kids to die. But somethings (like this country) are worth fighting for. Sometimes that requires sacrifice.
You're welcome for your freedom. |
