do you have to be able to talk a second language in the armed forces cuz my mate said ill need 2 no russian :s

A second language is always handy, but not essential.
Before you jet off to a foreign country you will have classes on how to speak and understand the basics.
Start to brush up on your Pashto and Dari though, as it will make it a hell of a lot easier for the latter |

no. Not unless you want to specialise in translation or somethig similar.
i know a few blokes in the forces, after a few pints most of them can barely manage english, let alone a foreign language! |

no. you will get paid more if you do but thats it. you think the hundreds of thousands of people in military all speak a foreign language? unless your a translator its not a requirement, if you want to be a translator they will TEACH you a language. |

Sure you'll need to know Russian if you're joining the Russian Armed Forces. As far as joining one of America's Armed Forces Branches, a second language is a plus but not necessary. |

No you don't need to learn a second language. You friend might be doing Intel, or Spec ops, then he will go DLI ( language school in cali)
However if you speak a foreign language well enough and can right it and understand it, you will take the DLPT ( defense Language Proficiency Test) and based on how well you do, and what cat the language falls into you will get extra money.. I knew french, and they turn that in cat 1 so i got some money for it... but you have to be at least 3/3
