There are a lot of people who get great pleasure from seeing other people suffer/panic, even for a short time. These two soldiers obviously are of that ilk and have nothing better to fill their time with than to make up such stories. They are probably jealous that you, in fact have a lovely girlfriend.

They may have heard it from someone else and misunderstood who the person was. Happens all the time. Ever hear that game "telephone", where one person says something and passes it down the line and before you know it what the last person says is completely different from what you said? It's kinda like that. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt though.

Skuttlebutt, as we called it in the Marines, is very common in the military. All it takes is one person to say something the slightest bit interesting, and away it goes.

Apparently there was some incident that these soldiers were refering to, but they had it wrong. Or perhaps someone started the "rumor" and it took off. I've seen that before. Usually harmless, but it can get people excited over nothing.

I wouldn't worry about it. You did the right thing by checking on her, and you found her safe and sound, so let it go as simple "skuttlebutt".

Holy crap, thats freakin mean! I'm an ahole by all accounts but I dont know about that man, I would be losing some rank over that one if you know what I mean. There are things you do and then there are things you dont do, and thats one of them. I would care less why they did it and start thinking about dealing out some serious punishment one way or another. If not a as* whoopin then at the very least a slashing of tires.

Because the PNN (private news network) people are weird when my TC took a bit of shrapnel to his chin it got passed around like telephone till he point it got retarded as we were sitting int he CSH in Iraq we over heard the rumor spreading to be that an RPG took some Bradley TC's head clean off LOL and that he was in the CSH we just looked at them in wide eyed amazement. .....Shadow Stalker
