I made a 96 on my ASVAB at MEPS. I felt pressured to go ahead and choose an MOS (68w healthcare specialist), since the one I really wanted 68T Animal Care Specialist was unavailable. So, I have been doing a lot of research, and found out that 68k medical laboratory specialist is under strength, plus I think I would enjoy it and be much more suited to that MOS than 68w. Anyway, I asked my recruiter for a RENO, and he said it was doubtful I would get it so close to leaving. Well, is it? Can I just not sign when I get to MEPS to ship, or can I ask for a RENO there? Is there anything I can do? I just really don't think I am suited to be a Medic, and I don't know what to do. If there is nothing I can do right now, can I reclass to a 68k later, or is there some kind of rule stating that 68w's can't reclass to 68k or something like that. (I have read that that's true in the reverse 68k to 68w.) Please help. Anyone. I am running out of time. I leave in 3 days!!!

The true answer is, you're in charge. If you want to renegotiate (RENO) your initial enlistment contract you can. Ultimately, the ball is in your court until you go back to MEPS on your BCT ship-date. It's understandable why your recruiter doesn't want to RENO your contract. It's so late in the game. Healthcare specialist is a good job, but if it's not what you want, don't accept it. Firmly explain to your recruiter/station commander that it's Medical Laboratory Specialist or nothing. Honestly, your initial enlistment is the best and only guaranteed way to get what you want. |

No, the problem is,
Your ship date to basic, is determined by when your AIT starts.
AIT's do not start every week or even every month in some cases
And the Army isn't gonna let you do nothing for several months, because you want to change your mos.
NOTE: just because a mos is undermanned, does not change how many people they train for that mos each year.
They are not undermanned with privates, they are under manned with sgt's and above. |

YES you can change your contract. You have not taken the " final oath and signed the real contract" YOU don't have to sign anything.... to the above guy, unless you know what you are talking about, served in the military and spent 1 minute at Meps and know what the laws are regarding Deppers, i would advise you to leave the crap info at home.... FYI 68W is a good mos but the promotions to SGT are very hard to get, 1 of the worst promo rates in the army |
