You don't have to state if you are in the military. In fact, if you think gay men and women should be in the military and you are in the military I suggest get a new email just to respond. Especially if you are gay in the military.
IF you aren't in the military, have you ever considered joining? Did you stop because you were gay? OR do you have an opinion about it?
Should gay men or women be allowed in the military? (And in the government such as FBI/CIA)
I am a gay man, and was almost ready to join the military. I scored in the 90's onmy ASVABS and was going to be a linguist. Either that or go in the marines and serve on the battlefield. I didn't because I couldn't deny myself and hide who I am. I wish we were allowed in the military, because I would join in a heart beat then. Even if discrimination still happened, just if we were allowed to be open I would join because I want more then ever to serve my country.
So, what is everyone else's opinions?

I'm sick of hearing how inconvient it owuld be in the shower or barracks. You dont have gays that are CURRENTLY in the military checking you out do you? No! And so be it, there are ways around it. Sepertae showers... PRIVATE showers... the beds are fine, noone is going to be checking you out in bed. Nor in shower. I don't, and I shower in the public. However, sometiems I do get a woody, I try not to... but I get a woody just doing Algebra... it's my hormones.

There were some gay men in my unit. They were discreet about their preferences. One started a conversation that I could have led one way if I were interested or the way I did, which indicated that I wasn't interested.
This man was an excellent soldier. I will always remember his understated heroism.
My step son was a good soldier and loved the military, he was booted because he was accused of being gay after 16 years.
I don't think it was proper to destroy his career because of that.
If you are gay and are considering the military, do your job well. Keep things private and discrete.
I hope the policy will ease in the future. |

i think so,theres nothing wrong with being gay as long as you respect others and dont force your self on them thats the one thing i dont like. |

Gay men and women are in the military. Everyone knows who they are. Don't think you can hide something like that. If they don't make an issue of it, not many really care.
Psst.--They go watch the women's basketball games every wednesday night in their rainbow toe socks :-) |

I see no problem with it. Anyone whose behavior is in line with military guidelines should be able to serve. I'm not in the military, but I'm under the impression that, *ahem*..."relations" between soldiers is a punishable offense anyway. Being gay doesn't force you to walk with a switch in your hips, speak with a lisp or do any other stereotypically "gay" things. |

openly gay? no i don't think so. i was in the army infantry and i defiantly wouldn't want to be a gay man in that situation. they would receive a lot of verbal abuse. |

I agree with John T's argument against gays in a standing army. But I don't believe we should have a standing army. We should only have a militia, which would only defend America, not police the world. Every American citizen should be part of that militia. |
