Of course you should be embarrassed to be American, after all, since we've been in Iraq there have been schools opened, girls and women are becoming more independent, banks have been opened, road ways built, free elections water and electricity have been provided in places that hadn't had it before.. Your a nit wit.... I am more embarrassed to have you as an American and I thank God that you aren't protecting this country, because you know and I know that you wouldn't have the back of anyone... just your own sorry a.s.s. |

You can be embarrassed about the quality of its leadership.

Are you sure you're not a Canadian in disguise?
Not all Americans support the US government's decision to invade and stay in Iraq. Keep your head up and if you feel strongly about it, campaign for political office and keep it from happening again (or end it, if it goes on that long).
Or go back to curling in one of them cushy indoor rinks they've got nowadays. (-: |

Lord, this is what mistruths will do.
A) There were WMD in Iraq. most were shipped out of country in the days leading up to the war, some has in fact been found, not huge stockpiles, but still enough to kill thousands. Why hasn;t all this been reported more? Well ask yourself who's controlling the media...
B) Iraq did not "do" 9-11 but had contact with and almost certainly harbored members of Al-Quida.
C) Iraq had launched a preemptive invasion of a close US ally, and had a homicidal leader who A) hated the US and B) was actively trying to develop chemical, biological, and nuclear means to destroy us. I'd say Iraq was a threat all right.
Any other points you want to bring up? If it comes from CNN or some anti-war nut on a blog I can guarantee you it's factually wrong. |

You should be embarrased to be an uneducated American. People are coming here from foregin countrys by the thousands daily...clearly were not that disrespected. |

You can be ashamed of be an American, ashamed of being a man (or a woman) ashamed of being white (or black or whatever), ashamed of being a human, ashamed of being a grownup (or not) and so on. Everything you are can in some way or other be linked to something you can be ashamed of.
You can be ashamed of not intervening when Saddam attacked Iran or when he attacked and killed some hundred thousand of his own by gas or other means, you can be ashamed of not being able to avoiding the killings in Zrebrenica, or the manslaughter in Burundi.
Or you can be ashamed of a poor planning, no understanding of other cultures and lack of success in a highly questionable attempt to remove Saddam and create a western democracy in Iraq.
It's all up to you, what to be ashamed of. If you chose the most popular to be ashamed of, you are safe in case you end up in a discussion. |

I don't know.
All I can say is that yes, a lot of people generalise about America and Americans and how bad they are.
Perhaps you can try to be the exception to the rule, so to speak.
Don't be a proud, patriotic ambassador, just be a genuine person.
You'll make a far greater impression by your 'good work' and words, on people, than any 'bad press' could tarnish, as long as you do what you see to be right. Be nice, people will think you're nice.
It's not the country you come from, it's the person you are that counts.
At least, that's how I see it.
When I go travelling, I have no signs, marks, flags, or patches on any of my gear that distinguish where I'm from.
I don't need to advertise.
People can take me for who I am, not where I'm from.
Because it's the person that matters, not the country.
Edit: looks like you've copped some flak from your fellow countrymen. With attitudes like theirs, I'm not surprised you hang your head, although I think it's them who should be ashamed - they do America's reputation a whole lot more damage than any Government could. They seem to forget the rest of the world sees what they say to their own people, and judges them accordingly. |
