Every genertaion of my family has. I want to fight. MY parentes don't want me to, they use the classic line. "your throwing your life away"

Joining the military is a noble thing to do. It isn't for everyone though. I can understand your parents not wanting you to join. It is a difficult decision to make. Make sure you look into all of your options and think long and hard before you make that choice. There are many types of jobs within the marines that won't put you out on the front lines either, and these jobs are just as important and are neccesary for us to fight the fight as well. Some of them may even be better in helping you to get a job on the civilian side once you leave the military.
I personally recommend people with very few options to join the military, but if you have opportunities to go to school and get a good education, I personally think you'd be crazy not to take advantage of them. Military will always be there if you choose to join later on. |

If thats the path u choose to take then do please research. Make sure in your heart thats what u want to do. Personally military is not hte lifestyle id choose. But I my grandfather loved it. He was a marine for 8 years and retired the navy. Just remember you have the choice to pick out your future. i hope you find your right career path Good luck. |

The decision ultimately needs to be yours; that it is not influenced by previous generations.
However, that is a strong pull; to continue in the fight for freedoms and doing it in the Marine Corps. My Father was Navy, 2 brothers went Army, one brother Air Force and I went Marine Corps. I take a great deal of pride in stating that. We gave many years for this great country.
"Throwing my life away"??- What are you supposed to be doing? There is no one answer for everybody. I never felt like I wasted my time. I spent 6 years in and feel I got something that most others will never have. Now, I am free to go to school for a degree, travel the world, etc. The military can be your career or it can be a stepping stone onto bigger and better things. It is definitely a life-enhancer and something not to be chosen lightly. |

You have to follow your heart. if this is something that is important to you, just do it. Do you honestly think that other members of your family, the ones that joined the Corps, don't you think they heard the same comments from their parents?
Just a thought, but if you live your life in accordance with the 'popular opinion' (your parents') then just how happy will you be?

Sounds like the USMC is the place for you.
By the way your parents dont think that you will be throwing your life away, most parents will say anything to keep their children safe.
Joining the USMC was the best thing I ever did, there is no way I could have accomplished the things that I have in my life without my experiences in the USMC.
If you really want to join the USMC and then dont you will regret it for the rest of your life.
All these people on Y/A trying to talk you out of it probably wanted to join the military but didn't have the balls to and now here they are trying to justify their lack of courage by acting like their is something wrong with you joining up.
If you want to join then do so, you will not regret it. |

if you have a brain join the marinecorp to get the tough training in boot camp and get a secure job future for the rest of your life.you will always have advantage to get a job any where in america.if you are thinking to fight as a warrier, then your parents are right, because one of the great author said,99 soldgers are born fool, because they do not know why they are fighting and who is right.both fight as they are told to do the job, even though some times they know this is not right but they have to obey the order.you can not use brain if you are a soldger.so this job is good for those people who do not want to us their brain.
by the way my son is a marin but he is an engineer, and was very smart in his studies so he never went to any war.that is why i know.joining marine corp gave him streangth and stemena, and puntuality in life.since he was alway an a student so he never have to go through what most kids have to go.he is now in a senior position in the national security.he has acheived a master's degree.now i am happy for what he acheived.but when i saw him on his grauation day as a marine ,i cried so much, because in three months he lost thirty pounds and he is 6'.5 tall, i shook him that why he joined marine?that makes him to use his brain and stay away from fighting in the field and die.he is my only son.i am aproud mother.respect your parents thought,if you are thinking to go and fight.even i do not agree for smart boys to join the police, because in this world it is very hard to live in peace, just by living and let live with most of the peaceful people, and as a police you always have to deal with the bad people who have no heart and your life is in their hand, you can be killed any time.that is the reason most of the policemen they are just a high school graduate.so if you do not wants to use your brain then these jobs are ok.but dance of death is all the time infront of you.i do not like the waist of life,by war or on the street as a policeman. |

well if you are looking for something that isnt routine then the military is definately the way to go because its like they say things change there like every other minute. now actually joining is up to you, you have to look into it and see if its whats you want and whats best for you and also i would suggest that you look at the other branches too and see what they can offer you, i understand that you have a history of being in the marines but hey you might get a better deal from another branch and why not start your own history.
as for your parents dont let them discourage you because to tell you the truth there is no way to be throwing your life away by joining the military unless you just do stupid sh*t and get in trouble..
and lastly tell your parents this... "how am i throwing my life away, which company do you know of that WONT hire people because they have a military background?" |
