Should I reenlist?
|
Well, I have been out for a year now, and I just feel like I need to go back in because I never deployed to Iraq. I just feel like iam missing out on that. All my buddies deployed and I feel like iam lesser because I never went. The funny thing is my buddies also told me not to re-up, but what do you guys think? Is it all that? Am I missing out?

hmm

that is something you will have to decide.
good luck with what ever you decide to do.
God Bless you |

I'd say risking your life just because you feel like you're "missing out" is pretty silly. But if you feel like you haven't done your share or you wish you could help out more with the mission in Iraq, then re-enlist. |

I am glad that I was able to serve. I always have a little regret that I am no longer able to serve.
I would lean in favor of yes but it is a personal decision
Skiwv; I hate to break it to you genius but it is an all volunteer force. You do not have to go f you do not want to. But before you go you have to pass a basic intelligence test; that may well present a problem |

If you want to serve your country, and its that imporant to you re-enlist. No one can make this choice for you except you. best of luck |

I think you should go with what you feel. If you want to re-enlist then go ahead & do that. If you want to help our country, then that's great! |

do it because you want to not because of what other people did or didnt do....it's not about their experience, it's about yours.....if you feel like you want to experience war and combat then feel free to go....and also not all soldiers who are sent to iraq actually see outside the FOB, so if you have an MOS that keeps you on the FOB then you wont get to see combat and then you reenlisted just to see within the walls of a FOB and not actually be in real combat.....really think about what you want.....just my 2 cents... |

You'll always be wondering...should I go...if you go, should I have been in combat...if in combat, should I have been in more dangerous combat...on and on. You did your job. Get on with your life. |

Well, I too have been out of the military for about a year now. I deployed overseas in the Navy onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. I guess that might be considered as "being deployed" as far as the Army or Marines are concerned, but I'm not sure what branch of service you served in. Either way, I did my time.
It sounds like you are having second thoughts about your decision to get out. My question is, "Did you take full advantage of the benefits the VA offered you?" Furthermore, "Are you looking into becoming a member of the Reserve component?"
As far as my own personal experience is concerned, if you are moderately intelligent, and can show up to work on time, use your GI Bill to further your education. A year ago I was fixing problems for pretty-boy Navy fly boys. Today I'm a pre-med student looking forward to transferring to one of the most elite universities in the country. The VA CAN help you.
While I was in, I worked in Naval aviation, and I continually asked myself, "Do I want to do this for the rest of my life?" Never once did I consider Naval aviation as a career, so the obvious choice for me was to get out and do something else.
If you want to make a career of what you did in the service, re-up. On the other hand, there is no shame in doing what you signed up for and continuing with your life. |

I currently have decided against re-enlisting simply because I hate my environment and we have no espirit de corps. But I did experience that once and the closeness of it. I would probably listen to your battle brothers on this one, they're trying to protect you. But reenlisting is always an option, especially if you're not ready for civilian life. |

Yes. Your sacrifce for OUR President Bush is so small compared to HIS LEGACY. You should follow your heart and sacrifice your small life for his much larger legacy. |
