War is a scam. It is done for profit. It made lots of money in Viet Nam for Dow, Lockheed, Colt, etc. It cost well over 50,000 American lives (and probably 3X that in suicides later) but that is chump change to multinational corporations who make billions of dollars. And no one knows how many Vietnamese were killed, wounded, maimed.

Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us against the "military/industrial complex" just as he left office. No one seemed to listen. Look at Halliburton and all their subsidiaries (like Blackwater Security); how much have they made from no-bid contracts?

We will be led into war again and again by those who build weapons and those who finance wars (big banks). General Wesley Clark said he was privilege to a memo that showed the US will go to war with Syria, Lebanon, and eventually Iran. That is the plan.

And we in the US wonder why folks in other countries do not love us. *sigh* Read Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and others.

First of all... Vietnam was never a "war". You have to declare war and that was never done. The protestors who were against the war, 1st off, were shown for the first time, first hand footage of a war in progress. Second, if you are gonna protest a war, the WAR itself, not the soliders who had no choice. They should ALWAYS be supported. Protestors would spit on soliders... it was nasty.

Vietnam should not be considered for war... there really isn't a big enough reason... North Korea (great documentary on Nation Geographic last night), Congo, Sudan, Dufar... place where People are being hurt, killed, displaced and we are doing nothing because they dont have oil or other resource we want. That is the true place to wage war...

If you had studied the Vietnam war, former secretary of defense Robert McNamara's book (he was the Rumsfeld of the Vietnam war), you would know that Vietnam was a huge mistake that cost over 55000 American lives.....

It wasn't right then....and wouldn't be now. Just like the Iraqi war is wrong - Vietnam was wrong.

Before you start philosophizing, I suggest you do a little intelligence research and reading.

no. it was a illegal war. it was not suppose to be a war. only ad visors. leaders of those years sought to give our troops experience in conflict. to fight a war with Russia. you must be as crazy as Hanoi Jane. ( Jane Fonda, went to Vietcong to protest our solider being there). the enemy is coming the enemy is coming, is what you are preaching. start a war with wrong information. its not the people that is the proplem, its the leaders. make love not war !!!!!!!!!! ; - )

I read where someone said McNamara during the VietNam war
was like Rumsfield today, great comparsion.

I was a draftee in 1968 and during the 1967-68 timeframe the military was not meeting it's quota's of troops so they instituted the McNamara 100,000....men of draft age who's IQ's were below standard and drafted them...look it up, it was for real.

Well, off course this is my opinion, i don't think the U.S should go and start another war. Partly because I am part Vienamese, but that's not the case. I don't think war is good for anyone, mostly because it tears families and homes apart. And the Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam have finally become one, if there is another war, it could make them two seperate pieces and make them against eachother. I really do think that war is wrong, it was never right, yet it was never wrong, people have there own opinions. My opinion states that the Vietnam War was wrong, but that's just me.

No we shouldnt first and foremost we didnt lose. Second Vietnam is acually become a very good economic ally they are about the only ones we evenly trade with and both countries have really profitted over it. Have you heard them come out and bad mouth us for anything in the last 20-30 years? Thats why you dont attack them, alliances change over time they will probably be a good ally in the future.

even if its right, you dont dare to returned back in vietnam. if iraq war you could not finish it, what about in vietnam ? you are just good in filming war movies and always the champion. but in real life, you are always the loser....so dont ever think about vietnam....

First off to cb450t We didn't screw with people's lives because my Father was in the Vietnam War and the things he saw I'll bit you would run like a chicken if you had to see half the things my Dad had to see.

But to answer your Question no because it's in the past and I think we need to leave it as it is.

That would be a moot point.

We've normalized relations with Vietnam and we have military units in Vietnam now working together with the Vietnamese to recover the remains of US war dead.

The whole point of the Vietnam war was to support the South Vietnamese government in fighting the communist government in the North from taking over the country. It's been communist since we pulled out - so there's no South Vietnamese government to support anymore.

Vietnam is hardly Communist anymore. The Soviet Navy isn't using it's ports. They are not allied against us.

Your logic is flawwed for several reasons. A majority of those who wanted to communists out of Vietnam are either dead or out of the country now. (don't forget about the 3 million slaughtered after the north finally took control or the millions of "boat people" who escaped......or died) Secondly, we were NOT at war WITH Vietnam. We were at war with the communists of north vietnam, sponsored by the russian's and chinese, and lead by the dictator Ho Chi Min. Our objective there, as in Iraq was never to occupy or "take over" the country. Sure, we had geo-political issues at stake but our concern was for the people of Vietnam too. Opression is something Americans have always had a distaste for. When a country or government begins to treat it's citizens as objects to rule rather then citizens to serve, most Americans begin to have issues.
