Absolutley. Just don't start crying when the hazing and teasing begins. No special treatment either. If their limp wrists can't support a weapon, then kick 'em out. |

It is irrelevant. I didn't care what my shipmates did on their own time, as long as they were alert and aware when on duty. That said, I do not want to hear about what you do on your own time be you hetero, homo or mono. |

Well, let's see...you have thousands of macho type, non-gay men training/ working hard and ...the last thing they need is some openly gay man trying to get in their pants...eeww! What do you mean by gay people be OPENLY allowed to serve in the military....by this do you mean they can OPENLY flirt with and/ or flant themselves to whom ever they choose?? This would start a freaking BIG problem with straight men in the military! Don't ask, don't tell is the best solution! |

Don't ask, don't tell should be the policy. |

All integration takes time... and it has to be driven by the concensus of society. The military is a good place for social experimentation, because there is such a broad cross-section of society represented. However, that experimentation cannot come at the cost of morale and esprit de corps. When black soldiers were first integrated into the Army, white soldiers were so desperate for reinforcements, that racial tensions could be set aside. But, at the same time, society was integrating... Jackie was brought from the ***** Leagues into the white league.
Don't Ask Don't Tell was the first step of integration. It's going to take time. And, as is evidenced by many of your answers... society is becoming more accepting of gays in the military. It's just a matter of desensitizing the homophobes.
And, on a personal note. We had a gay person in our unit. We all knew the "roommate" was actually a 'partner.' It was never an issue for us... because what happened at home, stayed at home. |

If your straight you don't want a flamer looking at your pooper if you have to change in front of him. Its for the queers safety too there was one who got killed a few years back for being openly gay. I personally think they should get there own unit away from the regulars...they can bleed and die just like straight people. |

maybe as sandbags, or targets. |

Yes I am here!!

They should not. It has been proven time and time again that gay's have a mental imbalance, look at Rosey. Do we know just how far this imbalance could go? |

Yeah, after all I would think an advantage of being a gay man in the military would be gay men are more observant of other men in crowded areas than straight men, which would work well in enemy territory, whereas in a crowded town setting in enemy territory straight men would also have their minds diverted to women (as they would walking down any street in town). |

I don't understand why it would matter. The military has let go many people who were qualified to serve simply because they were gay including those who could translate from Arabic into English. It really should not be an issue. |

no not openly, i think don't ask, don't tell is the best idea, guys flirting and being open about there gayness is the last thing our straight troops need |

people do serve openly in the military they already do... should openly gay people serve in the military.... only if the gay person has the ability to keep his or her fellow military responsibility in tow once the fact that he or she is gay comes out.. the thought of having to worry whether Adam and Steve are making cow eyes at each other instead of Adam telling Steve that I've got your back are two very different situations and put everyone including Adam and Steve in grave danger. and the same for Sally and Susie.... I don't want the gay men in the military to think I've singled them out.... |
