Should i call my husbands drill Sgt.??
|
My husband is a Basic Training and i havent been able to get my govt. ID card yet. My kids and I are in the DEERS system, but cant be seen until i get this card, they need apps bad. My husband is telling me that his drill sgt. wont bring him to JAG to get power of attorney forms. The people at JAG told me to call his drill sgt. and tell him how badly we need that paper. But, i have heard that my husband will get reamed if i call his sgt. Any thoughts?? Or other options on how i can get power of attorney??

Red Cross is good; so is the suggestion for the Base IG. But, there is also an agency called Army Community Services. Give them a call. Usually this is ran by the wives of Majors and Colonels. The "other" chain of command.... |

Dont call his Drill Sergeant. Call the Company Commander or 1SG. They can and will assist you and ensure that your family is taken care of. |

If its an emergency you can take your children to the ER. I think you are being a bit too impatient. |

Simple solution, call your local red cross. They will make the right phone calls and make things happen. If he gets smoked for a day , oh well, but if he has informed his Drill about the situation then the Drill will hear about it also. Sergeants along with everything else should be making sure their soldiers families are being taken care of. |

sure if you want to get him into a BUTT TON of trouble. he, meaning the Drill Sgt, is under ZERO obligation to make sure that paperwork is taken care of, since it should have been done when he arrived. In fact the packet you received in the mail should have all the paperwork you need in order to get your ID without your spouse present. If you haven't gotten that packet yet, then you will have to wait until it gets there( it can take 3-4 weeks after arriving at Basic Training for it to be sent out). |

I am confused as to what JAG has to do with anything. IF your children are already in deers, you should be able to call tricare and get them enrolled and get them seen by a network provider. I assume you are not near a military base?
JAG has nothing to do with ID cards.
You don't need a power of attorney to get an ID card
You are married, You are a dependent as are your children
As long as they are enrolled in Deers you can be seen by a doctor and it will be covered by Tricare, your ID card should not be required. My wife has not had to show her ID card for her or our children at the doctors office.
You need to contact the personnel office. Speak with the people at Deers enrollment and Id cards. They should be able to help you out.
Email me if you need further help |

I wouldnt call his DS but would call his BT 1SG explain what you need, dont say that his DS wont or hasnt done something he is suppose to and you might be surprised that you get what you need. |

Lillians right on. And yeah, he could get reamed if that's the reason you called him. Not to mention the reticule he'll get. |

Short answer: No.
Long answer: He's not your drill sgt. As a spouse, there are channels that we are required to go through. Its never good for a spouse to go jumping all over the chain of command. If you're in DEERs, you don't need a power of atty to get an ID card. If you're close to a base, call their personnel and ID dept and explain the situation. You should be able to go in with your marriage certificate and normal ID to get a military ID card. You also don't technically need an ID card to get Tricare. Once you're in DEERs you need to contact your local Tricare office to get into their system and choose a doctor and so on. You should be able to call the base he's at and ask for a family liason who can help you out with this, without going straight to his drill sgt. He can't be the only guy going through with a family. Worst case scenario, go to the ER if the kids are sick and get reimbursed by Tricare later. |

All these people have great ideas, I would try calling tricare just to see if you are already in the system, you would have to know your spouces Social security # to check this out because your kids and yourself will be under his # in the tricare system, if you don't know it, ask Him the next time he calls. In basic, when I went to basic I already filled out DEERS forms in Basic so I am assuming my kids would have already been in the system. If they are, you can go to your nearest military post and get ID cards and then get APPT.s thru any doctor in your area that takes the tricare insurance.
#'s for tricare:

Oy vey...so much confusing advice.
You are entitled to a temporary ID card without a power of attorney. Its good for 30 days. It can be renewed one time. Go to your nearest DEERS office and request a temp. I used to do several a day when I was in the ID card section.
ED Ski is mostly right. You don't need a power of attorney if you have either your sponsor present or a DD Form 1172 completed by your sponsor. His wife doesn't need to show her ID card because she has established her insurance (Tricare) with her healthcare provider. My provider asks for it about once a year to verify that I'm still receiving Tricare Remote. |

Call the base Inspector General (IG) and explain your problem. Call the base and ask for the number from the operator.
No reason or excuse for a soldier's family to do without for the lack of a piece of paper. It probably won't make the drill sergeant happy but Basic Training doesn't last long and then the sergeant will just be a memory. If the facts are as you state the chain of command needs to be aware that the sergeant is failing in his obligation as an NCO to take care of his troops.
The Army does take family seriously not allowing a soldier to provide for his family is unacceptable. |

He is gettin in trouble for stupid stuff right now anyway. If it is something that has to be done then it has to be done. H ewill prolly get yelled at, maybe even have to do more pushups for bed, or get a new nickname, but that stuff goes on anyway. It will be fine. the military is there to serve you anyway. Right? |

Don't bother with his Drill Sergeant. Contact his company First Sergeant or the Company Commander direct. It is your husband's responsibility to get you the proper paperwork and it doesn't take a trip to JAG for the application for an ID Card. His company admin guy or his Battalion PAC can accomplish it easily and quickly. Once the form is typed all it requires is the Company Commander's signature. Once you have the paper you can get an ID card on any Military Installation. I've done this myself when I was in Germany and the wife in California lost her ID card. It's not hard and your husband won't get reamed. |

Gotta have more explosions!

Aim further up the chain of command, if you have the numbers. Yes, if you call one of his direct instructors he will probably end up getting hell for it. It's a bit unreasonable, too... every minute counts in basic.
And besides, it's just three months. You can wait until he's graduated and in a more friendly enviroment, when he'll also have ample time for such matters. |

I think that your husband needs to talk with the 1SG or Company Commander. If his DS is not taking care of him or his family... THEN it's HIS responsiblity to use his chain of command. Yeah he will probably get smoked all day for doing so... but at least your family will be taken care of. You can always call up the IG if he has no luck after speaking with the proper chain of command. |

Hi JLo,
Just go to the emergency room and they will direct you from there. Yes, even if it is for a normal non emergency situation. They will see what your issue is, and help guide you. Please do not bother your husband right now, he is doing good to fend for himself right now. Be strong girl, you can make it a couple more weeks.
Love,
Mom |
