it will support you family very well money wise.
but i really dont advise it because you dont get to spend alot of time with you family, you know theres a chance of you not comming back to your family. and for those years the wife has to take care of the children basically by thereselfs and the kids dont get to see daddy every day. and that can be bad for a lil kid |

The military has limits on how many children you can have and still join. You need to find out that information first. Then, pick any branch other than the Marines. I was in the Army and the Navy. I would recommend the Navy even though you will have to go to sea a lot. |

New GI Bill is active in the fall this year with an average benefit of $85,000 as of this year. Tuition Assistance is available every year you are active duty once you are done with your initial training period. Blue Cross Blue Shield will run you about $300 a month for health insurance assuming you don't have to make an office visit. Guaranteed 3.5% pay raise every year minimum so every 3 years you have more than a 10% pay raise. Over a 20 year career, that is an increase 0f 60% minimum over what you would have been making assuming you would not have put on any additional ranks. Military One Source is something your family can use while you are deployed to get additional support. Right now it certainly is the place to be. You can get the technical training in hundreds of different fields, and practical experience in those fields while earning a living. Go for it! |

The military life is a good life for your family.
The beneifts are great.
As a married marine, you will receive:
BAH (housing allowance based upon your rank and the area you live in, or you can choose to live on base)
BAS (for enlisted is 323.87, it is to cover YOUR food, since single guys eat at the Dining Facility and don't pay for their own food)
Basic Pay (based upon your rank and time in service. It can be pretty crappy at first, but gets better and better as you go up in Rank and spend more time in) Here is a link to a pay chart: http://www.navycs.com/09militarypaychart.html Yes, it is for the navy, but all services get paid the same.
Your family will receive Tricare Prime, which covers 100% of everything. If they receive medications at a military treatment facility, they can get their precriptions for free as well. If they get their prescriptions at a civilian pharmacy, they are $3 for generic and $9 for name brand.
You also have access to the BX, which provides tax free shopping and lower prices on name brand items.
And access to the commissary, which has amazing prices on food and household items. It is also tax free, but you do pay a surcharge.
There are many family oriented things on many bases.
There are a multitude of programs out there to help you. Military One Source is great, and not only for deployed troops. You can get help with almost any problem you have. They have free financial counselors available, access to reduced childcare costs, etc.
Yes, the deployments are hard on families, but you get through them and it makes everyone stronger.
Edited:
I have no idea what aaron b is talking about with Blue Cross Blue Sheild. He is correct on pretty much everything else but that. Tricare Prime covers 100% of everything and costs you absolutely nothing. There are no out of pocket costs at all unless you get a prescription at a civilian pharmacy.
You can choose to go on Tricare Standard, in which you have co-pays and such, but see civilian doctors all of the time.
But there is really no need for an outside medical insurance. |

The US Economy and the US Taxpayer is in falling
into who knows where
The US military spent $700,000,000,000 BILLION dollars - GAO
in 2008 NOT including Iraq and Afghanistan.
Which brings the amount to about 1,000,000,000,000,000 TRILLION DOLLARS.
Where is the US MIlitary going to get 1 TRILLION dollars?
WHERE?????????????
Unemployment is skyrocketing yet SOMEHOW TAXPAYER dollars are supposed to pay for all of this???
"Thumbs down is irresponsible when it is ignorant of the facts" -
Source(s):
GAO - United States Government Accountability Office
Its a guaranteed check but what happens when the US Dollar collapses???
When China decides not to fund our debt anymore and/or Sells US Treasuries to balance their budget??? |
