Should i ship out March 31st or February 3rd for the USAF?
|
Well, i don't know what to do right now, should i take the offer for February 3rd or just wait til my Official time of March 31st. As of now i am looking for a job to keep me occupied til i ship out. Although i do need money, so i do need a job. The Air force will pay me good and i wont have to worry about not getting paid. The thing is i also just met this girl and she doesn't want me to go in the AF just yet. idk what to do that's why i am asking. 10 Points to the person with the best advice.

Just some advice:
Try to go to BMT single. More than likely you will be thinking about your girlfriend every spare second you get. Chances are she'll move on. 8 1/2 weeks is a long time. Than don't forget (only if you are AD), you will be going to an AFB which could even be out of the country and unless you're married, she will have to come over at your own expense. Which means a lot will transpire and eventually you'll break up.
So what I am saying is, do not let your new GF influence your decision on when you are going. The decision to join was made by YOU. It is YOUR name on the paper and not hers. If the only thing stopping you from going to BMT early is a girl you just met and you need the job and money. I say go for February.
However, your name is on the paper and you get to choose, with whatever your decision is, good luck and I hope to see you in the ranks of the greatest AF in the world. |

There will be more girls later on down the road. If you ditch the AF for a chick and she leaves you, how will you feel then? If you are ready now, go early. |

The girl shouldn't have anything to do with your decision. You're going to be leaving anyway, now is not the time to start a new relationship.
I would leave as late as possible if you're getting deployed to somewhere in the middle east. The later you leave, the shorter your tour will be because Obama's going to bring the troops home sooner than later. |

I'd take Feb 3rd. Here's why:
AF BMTS is much more physical that it used to be. If you ship out now, temps in San Antonio will be fairly moderate for the 8.5 weeks that you'll be there. If you wait until March 31st, you'll be facing much higher temps and humidity, especially during the daytime. Daytime temps in May can easily head into the 90s and humidity is pretty much stuck at 100% from late April onwards.
IMHO, the new g/f isn't part of the equation. You're going to be gone for at least 4 years and a few more weeks before you ship out will only make parting tougher. If she's really "The One" then it will survive the separation. If not, it will be easier on you both to cut your losses early. Hint: If she starts pushing for you to stay, then she is NOT "The One!" |

First, don't let a girl hinder your chance in the military. Your decisions should come first!
If you're ready to leave on February 3rd and would like to go, then by all means leave February 3rd. If you're more comfortable leaving a little later, then wait a little longer!
It depends on your personal feelings and whether you feel ready to go yet. |

Well, here is my opinion.. I joined the Air Force in 1979. Believe me when I tell you, I would bet it is pretty much the same basic training as it was then. With probably added things given the Homeland Security issues upon us these days. I was used to "party" and pretty much wasn't doing anything worth while prior to joining, getting stoned and going to rock concerts, hanging out. I took the ASVAB test 3 times to get in. Didn't have to have a high school diploma back then to join if your scores were high enough. Finally got the scores and enlisted. It was the BEST thing I ever did with my life!!! It was the BEST experience I have ever had in my life, memories that will last a lifetime. I can remember stuff like it was yesterday!! And can't remember where I laid my car keys!! The first 3 days were orientation, processing in, etc. and went by so fast I hardly remember those 3 days, but every day after I do. At first, oh my god, what the hell did I get myself into? BUT!!! As each day went by, the more I learned and experienced, the friends I made, what we all went through was worth every single leg lift, march, standing at attention, inspection etc!!! By the time our 25th day I think, we were out of our Greens and into our Dress Blues. And let me tell you each and everyone of us were the proudest friggen people you would have ever met to put those on!!!!!
Damn it we looked good!!! And we EARNED it!! The amount of Respect you gain for yourself, what you really can do! What you learn as a Flight (your group), the level of Pride you had never experienced before, is something that you will remember for the rest of your life!!!
If you've never done it, you don't know what I'm talking about. But, ask ANYONE 20+ yrs down the road if they went back in time, would they do it again? Most would reply yes! The Air Force isn't the Army or the Marines. It's not a combat organization for the most part. So it's different then those. Unless your a pilot and such. All I know is why wait. Go for it!! The pay is a hell of a lot better then I was in, I have two grown kids in the Coast Guard. 10 and 7 yrs now. You have to go to work for someone to survive your adult years, may as well get to it and get your life going. You'll experience the same thing if you leave now or later, so why not just get it over with and start your new life....
Just my opinion.......
Oh, by the way. Here is a secret piece of news for you, keep it to yourself, you can smile knowing where it came from one day.
There is NO camera in the squawk box in the dorm room!!!!
Let those other guys stand there and salute it while you laugh. You can tell them later!!!
And just Pay Attention, keep your mouth shut! Let the "trouble maker" get the brunt of your TI , there's always one in every bunch.
And best of luck to you, in 6wks you'll look back and say, hey, that lady was right. I did it, and you'll be one proud like you've never been before!! Not to mention your about to get into the best physical shape you've ever been in, and wait till your friends and family see you for the first time after basic!!!!!!!!
PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... |

The sooner the better. Why wait and waste another 7 weeks? |

If the only thing holding you back is a girl, then you should go Feb. 3 You just met this girl so it is not as if she is a significant part of your life. The sooner you go to basic training the sooner you can get it over with. If this girl really has feelings for you, she will support you and be there for you. If she doesn't, it is better to find out now before you get too involved with her. |

If you are serious and there are no consequences for shipping out early then go asap. I just joined the navy and Im shipping out on the 4th, I asked for the earliest time I could go, they wanted me to wait til july, thats too long. They said the only problem might be that it would void my sign on bonus, no big deal to me as Im not taking one. As far as the girl thing goes dont pay any attention to it, its not her life its yours, so if you really want to go then go |
