Illegals are not allowed to join the military. Legal resident aliens can serve and military service does provide a path to citizenship for them. |

They cannot get in the service if a illegal |

There are no illegals in the military since they have to have background checks. Any immigrant though who joins the military should be given fast track to citizenship if they are recommended by their superiors. |

Illegal immigrants are not allowed to enlist in the US Military.
Only Permanent Resident Aliens ( green card holders ) are allowed to enlist in the military.
No other class of immigrants are allowed to enlist. |

Any illegal aliens found to be servicing in the U.S. Military would be thrown out with a dishonorable discharge and turned over to ICE for immediate deportation! The illegal alien could only be in the military as a result of a fraudulence enlistment. We do not reward people for illegal acts. |

It is my understanding an illegal immagrant can not join the military as they will do a background check that would discover they are not legal citizens.
That being said, offering illegals the opportunity to join and serve this country as a way to becoming citizens certainly sounds like a positive idea to me. |

Lawful immigrants yes. I have had the privilege of seeing several of my fellow Paratroopers and Soldiers be sworn in as a new Citizen of the United States. These are faithful, sacrificing men who can never be questioned as to their loyalty, as they fought for us.
Illegals looking for another path to amnesty? No. Never.
I am not in favor of an American "Foreign Legion" either. If you want to see men's lives used and wasted for the disposal of the corporate dole and opportunistic politico, look at France.
I respect the men of the Legion, but not what they safeguard. |

I can not believe some of these answers. People, wake up and figure things out. If a person is Illegal they can not join the military. That would be compounding an illegal act. Can you say Felony? |

First of all, if you are an illegal immigrant, you won't be able to join the military.
Second of all, if I'm willing to die for some one else's country why can't I be granted a citizenship for that country that I am willing to give my life for.
Many US born citizen doesn't even want to join the military, but yet they get upset with legal immigrants getting citizenship because the are figthing for the freedom of those who doesn't want to protect themselves from terrorist. |

First off, if they are illegal immigrants, they won't be able to joing the military. However if they are here legally and choose to join the military to gain citizenship then they can become citizens
AFTER they complete their contract. Unless it has changed in the past 13 years.
I spent 21 years in the military and have had a soldier from India that was not a citizen, a Mexican, a guy from Belize and an Austrailian all get their citizenship, reenlist and continue their military careers. But I have never heard of an ILLEGAL immigrant being able to join. Of course, as in everything, something always falls through the cracks. |

I served with afew folks that where getting there citizenship while serving. They are great people. Like so many already have answer yes they should get it and for there families yes. but with the rule of only spouse and kids.
as for illegal. Well they should be shot or deported at least for false documentation. |

there are no illegal immigrants in the military. there are legal residents with green cards in the military. if they have gone into combat then yes they should be given immediate citizenship. |

There should be no illegal immigrants in the military. If they are found out they will be given a dishonorable discharge for fraudulent enlistment.
It seems from a lot of the answers that a lot of people don't know the difference between illegal and legal immigrants. They are not the same thing and should not be treated the same. |

I believe there is a program that makes immigrants who serve in the armed forces citizens. I don't know that many or any illegals are serving. I would hope they could be made legal by serving and then go through the normal channels for their wives and kids, but not their extended families. |

they dont automatically get citizenship, they have to take the test just like every other person...i think that they should automatically be given their citizenship without any tests though....but of course the government doesnt work that way and have to be uptight about EVERYTHING |

You can't get in the US military without at least a green card first.

Can illegal immigrants joint the service at all?
I mean once you enlist don't' you get deported??
If the military excepted you as an illegal immigrants then they are using you right?
because other illegal immigrant that got caught are automatically send back to their country.
So why would the military accept illegal immigrants at the first place.
and to answer your question, i believe they should become citizen right away...but who know..they might just joint to stay in the US does they really want to defend the country???
Can you just let anybody enlist in the army??
We once had some service men that are terrorist.....and spy....
I dont really know..but every form of government in this world is corrupted.... |

I wasn't aware an illegal immigrant could serve in the military but, if they can, then yes they should be granted a citizenship. |

I agree, if they are willing to give the ultimate sacrifice give them U.S. Citizenship. |

If not citizenship, permanent residency would be a favorable option. They, like all other legal immigrants should have the right to gain citizenship by passing the necessary tests. |

They shouldn't be allowed to join to begin with.
If they do, though, yes they should be given citizenship, along with a spouse and children. |

ALSPADA just so you know there was thi case of a guy who lived in California illegaly (about two years ago-I remember) and enlisted in the military -Marines- and after serving in Kuwait first and in Iraq and Afganistan they gave him a deportation order. The background check is to determine if the person has comitted a felony nothing else.
This guy served the US military and then they wanted to send him back to his country (I think it was Mexico), so YES. illegals can serve in the military. |

I think so. If they can serve during war time, they deserve it. |
