A free and independent media is one of the things that makes America a great country. To control the media for a political and military cause/agenda would be one more step to fascism (Brave New World/1984/V for Vendetta)

Our government has granted the media in this country Freedom of the Press. Therefore, I feel like forcing them to report in certain ways would only contradict everything that our military is fighting for in Iraq - freedom and democracy. It would be nice if more positive images from Iraq were shown, but when they had elections and other positive events, those WERE aired. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that there just aren't many positive aspects to the War in Iraq right now.

but they are no longer the only source of information. just search for a blog of soldiers to get a raw view of how things really are.the press fear this because they know they can't manipulate it.

Does our reporting actually "embolden" the enemy? I seriously doubt the illiterate on the ground actually have access to the NY Times, etc. And I doubt they understand enough English to figure out CNN and Fox. Who knows what the translators are saying about the context of US news.

Somebody controlling what's said is either:
1) editorial control by the owner/editor, or

2) Government propaganda, which in this country, since we are talking about the so called liberal/socialist/communist press by a republican/conservative government can only be interpreted as Fascism/Naziism.

Yes lets control the media, just like Iraq did. Thats is the way to bring freedom to the middle east.

Here is another thought - how about we make good policy decisions that lead to good news.

The media will print whatever they darn please. It doesn't have to be factual just as long as it is what they want you to believe. I have seen so many discrencies in the media that I don't trust anything they say without a grain of salt.

No, as right as you are, the media cannot be controlled by the government, it is one of those pesky constitutional rights things, that separates us from the commies. The free market will decide who is correct, that is why Fox News and talk radio are exploding with viewers and listeners.

I think they must try to show to people the other side of the story more often! Especially from the military point of view.

I think that some good things shown from over there would really help our morale. It might also help the families of soldiers to know that some things are okay.

The media does this to everything. When is the last time they ever reported on some good news. people just focus their attention on the bad things in life. I think we all need to stand behind our president and our troops. no matter what we are Americans and we need to stick together.

The same thing happened in Viet Nam. The reporters tended to stay in nice hotels, never get into the field, and made derrogatory remarks about the soldiers and their conduct. That CREATED a lot of the dissent about the war in Viet Nam even though much of what they reported was incorrect, slanted, and inflamatory.

Remember--ratings, and selling papers is more important than telling the whole story. Headlines and sound-bites!

There are no controls on the media.
They report what they want. Some have a political bias and only report what will reflect good on their party or bad on the others.
They report to sell papers not to be accurate or balanced.

we cant stop the liberal media by laws. we stop them by not using them any more. they need your advertising dollars. list to rush Limbaugh instead, or fox news, or the drudge report.
