Should the Military be involved with the Public School system ?

Additional Details
I saw on News that a school had the Military people there to make and enforce rules for the students .

ARMY STRONG!
That is a silly question. Will recruiters be banned from public high schools? NO!

How do you think alot of the drop out have a life and future now?

As long as the recruiters encourage the students to stay in school and graduate, there will not be an issue.

Military high schools? Attendance at those schools is voluntary. The have over 7,000 student trying to get into the newest one (there are only about 700 slots). I guarantee you that the students that attend will become better students, and better citizens than your average public school student. Regardless whether they decide to join the military after school or not, they will be better prepared for college and life in general. These kids want the discipline and structure that these school provide. And they choose to go there. As long as it is voluntary, and these schools keep doing an excellent job... I'm all for it. Military recruiters at schools? If the school receives federal funds of any sort, military recruiters should have every right to go on campus. Private schools can do whatever they please. Their loss...

ABSOLUTELY. JROTC provides leadership discipline and direction to students that want it and/or need it. Recruiters give options to kids that need them. Not everyone is READY for college right after high school. The military is a GREAT option for some.....EVEN in war time. I wish I could still serve my country. I was in for 16 years of my life as an Infantryman in the Army. My girlfriend and I are BOTH disabled Veteran's and she ALSO wishes she could still serve.
To get back on track...YES the military SHOULD be involved for other reasons as well.
Our military is an ALL VOLUNTEER force. Information has to be made available to help recruit the people necessary to defend our country and liberty.
There is a HUGE disconnect between the military and the civilian sector. That disconnect is shrinking because of the role that the Reserves and Guard are playing in the war. The recruiters provide a BRIDGE to that world that NO ONE has to enter unless they CHOSE to.

That's not very much information to base an answer off of.

You mean recruiters visiting schools or colleges to talk about the available opportunities? Yes they should be able to do that. It's the same as any other employer, and it's the government, which pays a significant portion of the schools operating costs.

Or you mean High Scholl ROTC programs? Despite appearances, that's not really the military. They are supported by the military, but paid for by local school districts & the instructors are civilians retired from the military and employed by the district just like any other teacher.

Or you mean something else like a private military school or some other idea of having them more involved?

Just speaking for myself, I think it's discusting how many civilians don't comprehend service to the country or feel they owe that debt. They just take & take without ever giving back, and then criticize things they have no clue about. I'd think we'd be a much better nation if there were some kind of compulsory service, in the military or a few other alternatives.

The answer to this question is yes. The reason is because most schools are funded by the state and federal government. If a college is allowed to go to a school to recruit then the military is allowed. Schools that don't let military in may face cuts from the government. I was on recruiting duty for 3 years in Johnstown PA and every school in the area to include private schools were military friendly. But they all had rules we had to follow. The military is a career that many follow and young men and ladies have the right to know all their options.

would they stop recruiters from fire departments or the police force in schools? i think not. let in the recruiters .

If you're going to ban recruiters from public schools you better ban college recruiters too. They both offer the same thing, a chance to do something with your life after highschool.

You need to clarify the term 'involved' and extent of involvement.

1 in 5 High School seniors will serve in some part of the Military at some point in thier life. That makes the DoD the single largest future employer of HS students. They should be able to have a presence in the public schools because the demand is there for it.

yes,especially for p.t.

Military recruiters should be allowed in schools. It is a career path that many young men and women can choose to follow if they desire. If I had a guidance councler that didn't give me every option out of high school, I sure hope that he would get fired. Just because the military isn't your ideal job, doesn't meen that it's not everyone elses ideal job either.

Government dollars support your school. Yes they should.

Only if the school has the option to "just say no." to recruiters. If the school wants them in fine, but if they don't then the principal should have the final decision. Our schools are there to educate, not indoctrinate. School policy must NEVER be dictated by the Pentagon.

h'mmmmm... sounds like the new world order is already here, socialism states that the government shall control all aspects of life, watch 1984 by George Orwell that will give you an idea where we are headed...

as in recruiters being able to go to the schools and recruit? no. becus that is the reason many of these kids are going to iraq and dying before they even have a chance to live their lives. plus many of them lie which isnt good at all.

One in five recruiters are being tried for lying, coercion, or false promises. That speaks for itself.
