We should reinstate the Militia act of 1792 (updated to allow all races to serve of course, and update to current technology.)
It would require every male citizen between 18-45 to own a 5.56 Semi-Auto rifle that accepts standard magazines and a back pack. They would train twice a year without pay and will be called upon when needed by the President. |

as long as we have plenty of brave men and women willingly to join the service and keep the quotas for our military filled there will never be a need for the draft .And even before they ever reinstated a draft I think they would consider granting more waivers from previously disqualified people who were willing to join but were denied enlistment due to their backgrounds |

No. Not needed. There is no viable contingency whereby we would need massed troops with armored and artillery support to move to contact against similar massed troops of an enemy. That contingency ended on December 24, 1991. |

It won't have to be if the volunteer service is attractive enough. The military does offer many incentives for enlistment. The educational benefits are great. The pay is not bad either. Let's all face facts. If 9-11 never happened, we probably wouldn't be in Iraq today. Right or wrong, the US military is there because of terrorism and many service men and women join because they want to fight terrorism. |

Yes it should. Every other county in the world makes you join when you turn 18 so why shouldn't we, besides if it wasn't for Clinton our military wouldn't be spread out so thin. So yes it should so we can the have the peace of mind that we still have a military that can protect us anywhere! |
