Should the media be aloud in war?
|
We all know that war is ugly nasty and Grusome. But maybe if the media wasnt as envolved could we be more affective at attaining our goals. and yes this means doing things that would normally be prosicuted by todays standards. But this is war the killing of our enemys. If we took the media out and was aloud to do the "Dirty work" would we be out of Iraq by now?

i agree with pasta and her statement. just look at what happened to prince harry when he was in afghanistan. they blew his cover and could've gotten him killed because no one knew he was over there except for a very select few. we had reporters trying their best to get us in compromising situations the last time i was in baghdad. we almost killed one because he wouldn't get out our way during a fire fight. he wanted to get the story he claimed. after i handcuffed him, i told him you'll get the story when we get done and no time sooner. boy was he mad. oh well, if had my way about it, it would be like it was in ww2. if you were a reporter you got drafted and placed in the army imformation corps. that way we could keep tabs on you and what you say. now they think they have the "right" to do whatever they want and say whatever they want regardless of the consequences. case in point, geraldo rivera was covering the marine advance into iraq and went on worldwide tv and told the world exactly what they were going to do. he lost his credentials because of it and pitched a fit that he was forceably removed. we had several like that over there that thought they are gods and need to be protected when most need to be lined up and shot for being collaborators with the enemy. we got more respect from al-jazzerra tha we did from cnn or nbc. |

Media today is a good/bad thing. they might let people know whats going on in the war. but they dont tell it as it is. they will take bits a pieces of a story and turn it into something that is completely different. Like if a soldiers shoot into a school building to kill a sniper who has already killed other soldiers. the only thing the news will report is that soldiers are shooting school houses. |

Allowed is the word your spell check missed and hell no!
War is ugly, nasty and political, you can't understand what is truly happening without giving up military strategies and secrets. |

I think the media presence in Iraq is a good idea. However, I can tell you from experience that what happens in Iraq and what you see on Television is best referred to as selective journalism. They love airing the pictures of missed target, suicide bombers and IED's. Where are the pictures of the soldiers rebuilding water facilities, power plants, schools, helping bring supplies to the needy? I know they film this stuff, but the American Media shields us from the positive-so for that they should be banned from observing if they are only to be bias in their reporting |

Well I think the media plays a good/bad part. They allow us to see what our country is participating in overseas, but they also decieve our minds. Some have us believing that it's all fine and dandy and others have us thinking there's nothing but explosions and death happening over there. If our media was more truthworthy I'd think it would be a perfect idea for them to go over and let America see what their country is doing or no doing for people of the world. |

No, they should not be there, its more than just being able to complete our missions safely, now we are tasked to ensure that these journalists are safe as well who have absolutely no business being there. It is a war zone after all, yet, if a journalist is hurt or killed, we have three days of their life story, yet if a soldier is killed, its just a number, makes no sense to me. These journalists twist everything they film to their will, so if they are against us being there, we are murderers and plunderers, they are truly hurting the US and the military.....they should stay in the green zone, thats about all i would allow if i was in charge. |

They should be allowed to be there, but I think it's crap that soldiers have to protect them and transport them wherever they need to go. If they want to be there they should take responsibility for their own safety, and not hide behind the same soldiers that they would sell out in a heart beat to get the lead story. (Although some of the reporters over there are pretty stand up guys, I am referring to the typical big media reporters who rarely leave the green zone) |

We haven't been angels and the press is safely ensconced in the Green zone, and pictures of the war dead being taken off planes is already verboten.
Our present goal is to train Iraqis to govern and take care of their own country. This has taken four years. If we are to win the hearts and minds of the people we bombed back into the tenth century then mass murder and the ability to ignore the Geneva Conventions and do the "Dirty work'' isn't the way to do it.
The media has already been effectively silenced, I remember back to the photo layouts in Look and Life magazines during the Viet Namese War, that was gritty and did lead to widespread understanding that this was a deadly cruel war, for both sides. |

If they weren't aloud we couldn't hear them. Please use spell check and also try to use common sense. Your spelling gives away the fact that you aren't too smart and your question confirms it. |

The media is part of a system of checks and balances, if we took it out, there would be nobody monitoring or reporting on our progress or lack thereof. |

Yeah, great idea. What we don't know won't hurt us. |

We need the media to know what bad is happening and what good is happening. We need to be informed as to what is happening. The problem is that they often get in the way. The media needs to be more careful when they do their stories. We probably also wouldn't be finished by now because of all the other factors affecting the war. |
