Should the media pay more attention to celebrities than the lives of our soldiers?
|
its seems as though the media pays more attention to the life of celebrities than the men and women who fight for us. They put they're lives on the lines for us, and they seem to get no attention. I think we should pay more attention, especially for those who's lives were lost during this ridiculous war. i feel as though we need to pay tribute to them, instead of worrying about who anna nicole's baby's daddy is. do you agree?

I agree. The main stream media relies on advertising dollars. So they do what they think will sell advertising and get readers or viewers. There is no requirement for them to act responsibly. |

lives of soldiers should be given priority because they fight for our country. |

I for one am tired of both.
There are other things going on in the world than Paris Hilton and Iraq. |

The media shows just what the public wants to see. If it were any different people would change the channel in droves. The fault lies with the public not with the media. |

I say, "Let 'em!" My life is stressed enough with training rotations and deployments and unit politics that the last thing I want is the press breathing down my neck...and my husband is the one in uniform.
The soldiers spend a year (or more) in hell (often with reporters tagging along) only to get shot at (or just plain shot), sleep deprived and undernourished, only to misrepresented on the news by aforementioned media personnel. When they're home, the last thing they want is more media.
My simple solution to the over-coverage of Anna's baby (or any other over blown celeb story): don't watch the E channel or read the rags in the grocery store aisle. |

Better question. Should you pay as much attention to the media that you seem to? |
|

I could care less
|
Should they? No. Will they? Absolutely yes.
Because as mentioned during one of the recent political debates, an average American hasn't been asked to sacrifice anything in this "global war on terror".
So why should s/he be concerned about life of a poor soldier when s/he can kick back, relax and have a drink and BBQ while watching Paris Hilton? |

Indeed! You hit the nail on the head. The argument that those in the military are uneducated, poor and ask for it is old, tired and shows the ignorance of the posters. Our liberal media doesn't want to show the good that's going on nor have the American people rally behind our troops as they did in WWII - to much patriotisim and cohesiveness ruins the liberal agenda don't you know! |

Well I do not look at this war as ridiculous. There is a reason for it and you could say is that the first Gulf War was stop too soon. Say that I would agree with you that more people do worry about what the stars are doing then on just how great our military are. For the most part almost all of the military look at they are just doing their jobs and there is nothing special about them. I have talked to Medal of Honor Recipient's and most of them do come across as what they did was nothing other then doing their job and trying to help their buddies.
I talked to George T. Joe Sakato and he wanted to talk more about what the American Legion needs to do get younger people in then what he did on 29 Oct 1944. |

The media is trying to make a profit. To do that, they cover the stories that people want to see. If ABC or CBS ignored the celebrity stories and spent more time on the lives of our soldiers - people would change the channel to whatever was covering the celbrities.
There is plenty of coverage of what is going on in the war if you look for it on CNN, MSNBC, PBS, etc. Let's quit supporting this poor excuse of a president and start supporting our troops by getting them the hell out of there! |

Exactly........... but thats how the masses are kept silent. What they dont know about they cant protest about. And if there are no protesters, the warmongers have a free riegn to do what ever the hell they want to. |

I dunno, on one hand you have rich morons getting in trouble with the law, and on the other hand (mostly) poor morons who fight "for their country" in a completely pointless war. Tough choice. |
