We should ban all religion in schools full stop. That includes symbols. Places of worship are for religion, not schools. |

teaching children to believe in a religion is the ultimate example of child abuse |

We should ban all religious symbols everywhere. Keep it to yourself on a Sunday morning. |

NO this is a christian country, why should we pander to a few
PC dipsticks that do not live in the real world. If others object to the christian symbology then send the kids to a school of their choosing, only don't expect the state to pay for a school that is not run according to the nations rules.
If a christian family want their children to attend a christian school in many Muslim countries the parents of those children have to fund the school, why should the same rules not apply here. |

If you are talking about the UK, NO! definitely not, this is still a Christian country, and as such the Cross should be displayed, remember that people of other religions in this country new that they were coming to a Christian country, if it offends them why did they come, there are too many people jumping on the PC bandwagon, they should give it a rest and get on with their own lives. |

State schools certainly should have a full time ban on all symbols of a religious nature. Only religious schools should ever be allowed to let students wear such ornaments.
We are told that UK is a secular society. This being the case, let's have some secularism! No religion in school ever. Morning assembly should be just that - no prayers, no hymns - just the Head Teacher announcing the strategy for the day.
France remains a largely Christian country, yet it banned all religion in it's schools at the time of the still ongoing French Revolution. Vive la France. |

I think you can't just select only certain religions that will be given space at school... it should be either all or none... otherwise you're discriminating... |

Yes, if the schools are non religious, because no religion should be foisted upon anybody, in schools or anywhere else come to that. |

Are we talking about the schools them selves or people wearing the symbols on themselves. I believe in separation of church and state and understand that no PUBLIC school should influence religion on their pupils. But I do believe that the kids should be allowed to wear there religion under the first amendment. As for private schools I believe that they can show any symbol they want because it is not paid through taxation. |

The thing that is surprising me here is that most of your answers are saying "This is a Christian country"!
What does that really mean? This is a country for Christians?
It's not just a country for Christians, it is in fact a country for all religions, and all nationalities.
I am of course in favour of banning all religious symbols and all religions!
If one religious symbol is banned, then all should be banned .
If religion is taught in schools then all religions should be taught in schools, better still no religion at all should taught in schools, that is not what schools are for is it? to brainwash kids, to teach them to discriminate.
In brief my answer is yes, ban all religious symbols from schools, as a start, then ban all religions |

Yes. If you want your children to grow up with religious values of any description, see to it in your own free time. |

With the amount of kids truanting shouldn't we ban schools then the teachers can get a proper job!!LOL (Tongue in cheek, teachers are great & changed my life!)
Wouldn't that make RE classes slightly difficult? |

Yes,children should not be brainwashed. |

No, I don't think so. But, beware the two-edged sword. If we allow religious symbolism in schools (and I'm assuming you mean public schools) then we have to allow ALL religious symbolism, including satanism and wicka, scientology, etc.. While battling to make sure our children are not denied exposure to a heritage we cherish we are also taking the chance of them being exposed to something we would rather they are not. Freedom...it's a b*tch! |

Yes. Religion works against education.

No we should be teaching children to respect others values and that having different beliefs is acceptable. that way society might start to become a bit more tolerant. |

Why on earth should it be illegal to wear a crucifix or hijab. As long as individuals aren't shoving their ideology down other people's throat then they should have every right to display their religious belief. |

It shouldn't be ban. The more kids are exposed to religion the better they're understanding of it. |

No, we are still a Christian country, you wouldn't expect say Dubai to ban their religious symbols would you? As the old saying goes "when in Rome.......etc, etc" By the way Kimmie, this IS a Christian country, just because people practice other faiths does not change the fact that it IS a Christian country, as is Dubai is an Islamic country, although obviously people of other faiths do reside there, (expats etc) |

Sure, and then we can make a point of NOT praying before dangerous, our exciting events. Then, we can have gay marriages in the cafeteria at lunch time, and encourage all the kids that it's okay to experiment with all lifestyles, including interspecies relationships, as long as it makes them feel good. Then perhaps we could have Rosie O'Donnell come to the school and tell them that republicans are dumb and they should be fat like her...
Or we can let kids pray when the want, or not when they want. I think a little prayer might be just what our kids need these days. |

No.
We shouldn't ban ANY. |

In public schools, yes. Separation of Church and state. Oh, this is NOT a Christian country. Just a majority of the population might be Christians. Does not make them right. Keep your religion out of schools, and we will keep thinking out if chruch. |

This is a Christian country and Christianity should be taught in schools as it always has been. |

In my opinion, we shouldn't ban religious symbols because, if it's for your religion, you must be able to wear what you want. It is cleary not fair if not. |
