The proscriptions against alcohol do not run as deeply as many people believe in Iraq. A few drinks in private is nothing to be concerned with. From what I understand however, Iraq is considered a combat zone. You should not be drinking alcohol in any combat zone regardless of cultural standards. That would be poor soldiering. |

NO, improtant things and alcohol are a bad combination. Not to metion the use of guns when drinking, not a good idea either. |

No.
1. Iraq is supposed to be alcohol free because of their laws and government. We liberated them but we should respect it.
2. Drinking and immanent danger are a bad combination. Being drunk when a mortar round is withing 200 meters might result in an unnecessary casualty.
3. Alcohol is a depressant. We had a Soldier, durning the time I was in country, that had consumed alcohol and drove off post in a soft sided vehicle. It is hard enough to deal with emotions in a war zone. |

If you do it on base, you aren't scheduled for duty for at least eight hours, and you're able to stand duty on schedule, then I don't see a problem with it. But that's just me. I don't make the rules. |

No...there are a million and one good reasons not encourage drinking in a combat zone. Some people can't hold their liquor and become drunk easily. Some people are angry drunks...an angry drunk with a gun...very bad combination. Some people get depressed when they drink. If that person is already depressed because of their current situation; what might happen if they step over that line? Then, there are the slobbering drunks who can't function at a minimum level when drinking and become good for nothing until they sleep it off. There are a lot of other reasons I can think of; but those would be my main concerns. |

the way i see it is no. i mean sure some may see it as fun but there is no way to stay fully concentrated when under the influence. not to mention alcohol is a depressant and when the soldiers drink they probably think about everything they miss and it brings them down. |

The military has always followed the social laws and customs of the country we are fighting in.
Is alcohol really that important to you? |

no i believe when you are in another country by force or by welcome...you try to follow their social rules...and yeah we are kinda there by force but the thing is if alcohol is such a huge no no...it should be for any of our troops as well..if not you get into the im on my down time..im gonna drink and some wont stop at one or two..and that would just end up hurting everyone around them |

No you shouldn't. It would impair judgement and it is against their laws. My husband made it through his deployment without a drink , I think you can too. |

Damn straight. Why are we good enough to fight for there
sandy asses, but can't shoot down a cold one. Another reason for separation of church and state. |

I don't see why not as long as it don't distract you from what you are there to do !! |

Gotta have more explosions!

If you can get enough time off to do so, I don't see why not.
Keep in mind traces of alcohol from a typical beer can linger in your body for around eight hours. If a unit knows they have at least a day off, it'll do no harm if they get a few drinks to chill out a bit.
Some people have the wrong impression - as if a single drink will keep a soldier inebriated for months, or if it involves getting on the piss every single night. |
