Should we go to Iraq full force wipe em out and be done with it ?

I side more liberal or Demo but I also believe we can`t leave Iraq after we have screwed it up for the people there. Would it cost anymore money and lives if we were to just go there FULL force with our military and take care of this situation . Look at it now, at this rate we have another Vietnam that will go on a long time. If you add up all those years and lives which way would be better. Now that Bush got it started we have to finish it. The way it looks now to other countries is that we are weak and our military leaders are stupid. We better do something drastic with Iraq soon and put some fear into Irans butt cuz we will end up having to deal with them soon

Well the US does look weak and stupid because that is the reality.
Most people warned against this illegal war and now the US is realising they were right but it's too late for all the dead people.

Yes, that's the way, use a lot of bruin and very little brains, and avoid being patient, that's the American way.
wipe who - the whole population of Iraq are 23,000,000. the Sunni Iraqis are 7,000,000. The Shiites are 12,000,000.
what about the Syrian supporters, the Iranians, the whole Muslim world.
The problems Islam poses to the USA and to the west require wisdom, patience and a lot of potential power to intimidate, not to wipe out.

i don't think we should be over therein someone else country fighting a war. BUSH IS DOING ALL OF THE STUFF HIS DAD DIDN'T DO. we need to worry about our country with all of the drug dealers, the homeless, people that don't have food to eat. all of that money the United State is spending over there in Iraq they could have build the whole city of New Orleans back over again. we need to take care of home. with all of our solders getting killed everyday.

You embarrass liberals and Democrats. Yes, let's do something drastic and cause other countries to despise us even more. We have many on our side and many that aren't, but bombing the place will cause bigger problems for the future, trust me. Best just to keep on and eventually leave, letting the Iraqi soilders take care of their own problems once they are set. That is just my opinion.

You are not just dealing with Iraq. That country does not exist in a vacuum. Islam is the largest religion in the world, and quite a large number of Muslems believe they are under attack by Christians/Jews. There is some justification for this feeling.

So, the entire notion of using force to deal with the problem is absurd. Tough though it is, and much tougher after the Bush years, we all gotta make friends. There are those on both sides who want to do this so let's get together.

Oh my, I'm almost afraid to answer this one. Hmmmm how can I put this? Let me do this as subtly as I can, (damn hope it is so lol) Ok Now first I have to say Are all yall crazy who said YES? WTF turn it around how would you feel? Don't any of you think there are innocent people over there who want change in there country also? What about the the children over there or are American children the ONLY ones who should live because well simply put they are American. I would have to say that before ALL this started I was friends with a lady with several children over there and her and her children were nothing but NICE and always when this first started she sent prayers to ALL the troops and people. Because she just.......cared, not of America or Iraq but of people, and the fact that she is only one person should not matter if there is one there will be more and no the innocent people SHOULD NOT die. This may sound harsh but isn't that a lil like Hitler? Who cares if their innocent just kill em because they are this nationallity? I am thinking all that said yes would have served well for Hitler!! And yes I'm American and YES I love my country but No I don't believe we should go over and blow IRAQ in general away. As sad as this whole war is we have people dieing and so do they and it is a sad situation all the way around. And yeah I've heard well they are fighting against us and I think, DUH did they really say that? We are also fighting against them it is what we are ALL suppose to do love our country and fight for it, God Bless all of the people. We shouldn't hold them all responsible. I think they just need structure and good leadership!! I just pray everyday our men and women make it through one more day. And I don't think Iran thinks we are weak if they do no matter what we do they will still try our patience and again we will fight because it is what America should do. Does it make it right or wrong? Does it matter?

Wipe em out???

That statement really makes me question the sanity of some people....

The war in Iraq is not winnable, never was. wouldn't worry about America's image either, as it is already ruined.

I think America needs to look around at itself actually.

Somehow i don't think Iran really cares what America wants or thinks, and i KNOW if it comes to war with Iran, America will be in for a shock.

Seeing that you side more with the Dems, I'll answer this question since you are probably open to various views.

I completely agree with you that the Iran situation is out of control because of this nightmare in Iraq. Iran can do anything they want, and we can't do a thing about it because we have our hands tied. Not only is our military unable to wage a war in Iran and Iraq at the same time (without introducing a draft), not only has our Iraq failure given confidence to countries like North Korea and Iran that we are impotent to stop them, but also because now that Iraq has been such a failure, it would be political suicide to start another war.

Futhremore, the problem is, even if we went over to Iraq in full force, who would we be fighting? This is one of the major problems, we don't clearly know who the enemy is. There are so many groups over there killing one another, how could we prevent this? The style of warfare there is not something a large military is equipt or designed to deal with.

Trying to rebuild the country might still work, but it would take a long long time, and there will still be unending conflicts and corruption.

If we wanted to win quickly, I don't think a larger military presence will do much -- it might, but I doubt it -- as we are fighting a guerilla war which requires precision targetting and attacks, which leaves us with two options. 1) Nuke em all . . . which is just stupid and not a realistic possibility for far too many reasons I can list, not the least of which is that it would make Sadam look like a saint in comparison (what he did to the Kurds would be a joke compared to nuking an entire country), or 2) install a ruthless dictator like Saddam (whether that be ourselves or someone else) to maintain law and order, which would be a joke because the whole point, in part, of this war was to remove a ruthless dictator, not install one.

In many ways, as much as I hate to admit it, Saddam was probably the best thing for Iraq. As ruthless as he was, there were reasons why he was so ruthless, and we are beginning to see those reasons now. He was holding back a tidal wave, one that we unleashed by removing him. We had no understanding of the long history of political and ethnic strife in that region, he did. More over, Saddam was dreadfully afraid of religious extremists, because they threatened his power (since he was viewed as a heretic/atheist), so he wasn't really a threat to us because of terrorism, since he would regularly round up religious terrorist groups and lock em away (or kill them). And for all the political repression the Iraqi people suffered under, at least they had law and order, some degree of education, and a relatively civilized society. Now they just have chaos and civil war which will probably just continue until another ruthless dictator assumes control. The problem now is, what if that ruthless dictator turns out to be an Islamic extremist? That would be worse, for us, than Saddam (who sought to suppress religion). Why do you think we sided with Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war?

In otherwords, to some extent we need to question whether the Iraqi people require a brutal dictator at this stage in their development in order to provide law and order. I don't know if this is true, but it certainly seems that way. Are we to become that brutal dictator? That would contradict all of our fundamental morals and values. But certainly our worst fear is that some Islamic militant become that leader. So do we try to install a ruthless dictator that might be more or less on our side?

Man, what a nightmare. This whole war has been nothing but bad news for us and bad news for them. Now the Islamic world is more fanatical and angry than ever. Before you had a few extremist groups using paper knives to hijack some planes. Now you have an Islamic world convinced we are the enemy, and we are looking at a country, filled to the brim with people who hate the US, developing nuclear weapons. Saddam was never a real threat. Defeated after the first gulf war he followed all of our orders and dismantled his WMD programs. Now that a real WMD threat has begun to arise, we are impotent to do anything about it!

We removed Saddam, and Iran should fear us for that. But perhaps the mistake we made was in remaining in Iraq to try to establish law and order, etc. (Of course, since the people who engineered this war were primarily interested in getting rich, they needed us to remain.) Perhaps if we just had gone in, removed Saddam, and left, Iran would think twice about the course it is on.

I'm inclined to think Iran thinks it has the green light precisely because we continue to remain tied up in Iraq. They figure if they can develop nuclear weapons before we leave Iraq, they will be safe from us once they do. I also don't think more military in Iraq is going to establish anything beyond what we already have done. So perhaps the best strategy would be to pull out and regroup so that Iran has something to fear.

Personally, I think, in the long run we need to better relations with the Islamic world. We can't continue down this road of aggression indefinitely. We need for them to stop hating us (and for us to stop hating them). But that will take a long time, even assuming we attempt to do so . . . in the short term my theory is that what is giving Iran courage to go ahead with their nuclear ambitions is not that we have "lost" Iraq, but rather that we are tied up there. I also don't think we can resolve the Iraq situation through military might in the short term. So I think getting out of Iraq so that we have something to threaten Iran with would probably be best in the short run. Pulling out all at once, however, might make it very difficult to prevent the transfer of power in Iraq into the "wrong" hands. So a gradual pullout might be best.

But I can't pretend to have anything more than theories, and am open to other points of view here. Though it is clear in my mind that we have created far more of a mess than we have solved anything.

The US has never been successful at guerilla warfare, that's what's going on right now. This is a war in which the US cannot win, no matter how many forces you have on the ground. Taking the air is easy, but once you get on the ground, that's a different sort of war. Course if Rummy hadn't disband the Iraqi army things might have been a lot better.

There is no 'wiping em out'. That's sort of the mentality that created this mess.

It is not a sign of weakness to realize that we have made a error in judgment. When someone is screwing you up the *ss, it is a good idea to cut and run. I don't think any county that matters will think we are weak, they might wonder what took us so long to wake up and realize what was going on.

First thing is, no we shouldn't go all out...we should stay the course for now, and let our military commanders figure out how its done. But, if they wanna go all out next week, go for it. I just want them to run operations, not politicians micro managing it.
Cruise missles aren't always the best choice.

If you leave, let then start to heal, apologize. Send the perps to the Hague for war crimes. Then offer real aid money, not money for Cheney to build barracks and pipe lines. They will understand you too were deceived by liars in government. All countries understand that. But if America could prove powerful and willing enough to punish a rogue government. America would have Hero Worship status world over! And That's The Truth!...MARY

I feel we must leave this kind of decision to the top people, in the military. What we see as the solution, may not be wise.
(For what it's worth, I see things your way.)

Yes, we need to clean up the mess in Iraq and send a clear message to Iran and Syria as well.
