Should women be in the military?

Should women be in the military?

Now, don't be a hater, I'm just going off of what I've seen, but I'm starting to be against it.

My husband is in the military, and the few women that are in his squadron are all on light duty now because they complain of injuries etc... doing the regular work that the guys do.
For instance, 2-3 of them complained that the Turco (plane wash) that they were washing the planes with was cracking their feet and they didn't like it. It was cracking my husbands feet and all of the other guys too! But the girls got sent to the gee-dunk (concession stand) because they whined non-stop about it.

Although women have a higher pain tolerance and thresh-hold, men seem to actually put up with more. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some tough cookie females in the navy, but they seem to be few and far between from what I've seen in the past 2 years that he's been in service.
Maybe they should make it more difficult to get in to weed out the whiners, so the girls that deserve to be there can...

without being stereotyped as being weak.

I don't have a problem with women in the military as long as they can hold their own. I agree there are lots of women who are tough cookies, do their jobs, and don't complain. However, my husband is in the Army and has seen a fair share of whiners as well. He was deployed with several in his unit and they caused a lot of problems with unit cohesivness. Now that doesn't mean they all are like that...he has seen some good high speed female soldiers as well. I would say it really is a case by case basis. I do think however their PT requirements should be the same as males. I think that would weed out some of the weaker ones. For the poster who said females fought to hard to get equal rights...well honestly in some ways the scales have gone in the wrong direction. If a female wants to join..GREAT! But they should be prepared to meet all requirements without having to change the standards.

Yes I think women should be in the military, Its not the womens fault because they get sent to light duty after complaining...Its the instructors and higher rank for putting up with it and playing favortism. If they didnt do this you would have less women complaining and more of them putting up with it.......so the problem is with the higher ranks.

There are some things that women cannot do in the military such as Special Forces and 11B. Other than the few MOS's that women cannot join, they have every right to be in the military. If they complain, let them. It takes someone tough to be in the military and some women and men aren't capable of that.

Army Girl
Its the few females like you just described that bring all of us down.

Not everyone is a slacker, and most of us do try and do the right thing and are just as hard working as our male counterparts.

There are male slackers as well you know, but granted they might not get all the attention that a female does when she slacks off. And your husband probably doesn't come home complaining about the females/males that actually DO their job now does he?

To answer your question, yes we should be in the military. Please don't judge all of us for the few screw ups you hear of. There are females out there that want to be in the service and work just as hard to prove we belong.

Edit: And your going to have slackers/complainers/whiners anywhere you go. They could be a great worker but still run their mouth about every little job they have to do. And you really have no right to judge any of these women because you are not in the service, and have no idea what it takes to fulfill the job. Join up, do hard work, and earn your right to complain about what other female service members are doing. Until then stop stereotyping us all.

Wow I always knew the Navy was for the weak of spirit but that is crazy, if you want to see tough girls who don't whine and put up with as much and more go check out the Army. I have been in for almost 6 years and the only whimpy girls I have seen are the civilian sceretaries.
We just got done doing a training exercise in which we had to ruck 3 miles with a 45 lbs pack in 45 minutes, all the females made it in less than 30 leaving behind them a few of the older males in the unit.
Just because you have heard from your husband that girls in his area are whimps doesn't mean we all are.

In my opinion the COC is at fault here. If they were whining I would have given them something much worse to do.

In all fairness there is whining guys in the military as well.

It isn't a matter of if women should be in the military because I doubt there will be an overhaul and kicking all the women out. If they did the draft would be back up and running.

blaster
well i dont know exactly what you are getting at because there are some females that are in the army and marines that would put some of the guys to shame so you really are stereotyping, there are some dudes that are the same way but guess what it doesnt seem like it because there are more males so the cases seem like they are less, i know there are some guys b*tching about their jobs there in the navy so its not an isolated thing. i think women can do just as good a job in the military as men can just because the ones in the navy are weak doesnt mean they all are. i bet you didnt know that back in the day they had women snipers who were just as good as the men.

usmcgirl0918
you dont work with them u are jsut hearing what people are telling you - it is just like stupid rumors anywhere else.....i know some female marines that can work just as hard OR HARDER then males in ANY BRANCH - i think for you to compare a few females so WOMEN being in the military is just not um cool to be nice

also he has only been in 2 years u have not seen much!

I served 20 years in the USAF and we found a simple and effective way around this kind of stuff, regardless if it is a man or a woman who is whining.

If you have an AFSC (duty description) and it lists all the various things you must do to be remain in that AFSC and you are unable to do them, you must seek a transfer to some other AFSC that you can handle.

So lets say your AFSC is aircraft maintenance and one of the jobs you have to do is clean and de-ice the plane even if it is 40 below zero. Now if you can not do the job on a consistent basis over a long period of time (people do get sick and injured, which puts them out for short periods of time) due to "health reasons" you have to transfer to an AFSC that you can do.

Of course, each time you change AFSCs, that puts you behind those who have been doing that particular new AFSC for a while and your promotion rate drops. Do it enough times and you do not get promoted at all and have to get out.

Bottom line, if you can not do the job, find a new job. If you can not do a number of different jobs, get out and become a civilian.

I found in the USAF, we had few whiners, men or women.

i think the more important question is, does women have the right to be in the military. gender inequality is already a thing of the past i believe.

since women can do anything a man can do, they should serve as men do. look at the Israeli Army and many others throughout the world

I believe in women in the military. Provided they can muster the program. Washing planes is a tough job -- but not much call for it in the civilian world. Thats how the women look at these jobs. Women answer the tough jobs -- but when they fail to carry them out -- they complain of a broken nail or a rash. Supervision in the military needs to look past the red lips and big t*ts and put them in another career field that will not demoralitize the rest of the cohesive working unit...

we all have our place in this universe. in the animal kingdom lions and lionesses have their roles to play. im a believer of rights such as the right to suffrage and equal opportunities in the work place (not the battle field). however to go so far as to switch sides/ roles and just erase the distinction bet men and women is the most unbelievable movement this world will witness and im not going to be part of a few twisted/ emotionally troubled/ hurt and scarred women. i respect women more than a lot of men who may agree to women in the military believe of not and if they want to go to the military its their call. but since your asking me thats my position.

Yes of course! Woman can do anything that men can do. But there shouldnt be any sort of different standards for females. Everybody should be judged due to theyre own skills and talents. More stupid questions? (And I dont mean that you are stupid by asking that.) Johan

if they want to join then they should be able to, but if they are just gonna whine because they cant do work then they shouldnt. the military protects the freedom of this country and others. how the hell are you gonna be able to live in the desert for months, barely take any showers or anything else, and kill other people if you cant even wash a plane. everyone should be able to join the military, but if you know that youre not cut out for that type of stuff than you shouldnt do it. gender shouldnt make a difference at all. my mom was in the army and she did just fine.

nothing wrong with it, however, if there is a double standard in the physical fitness tests or other things than it's wrong...and I've heard that there is (i.e. in boot camp).

it is a bit confusing ques .
i think women should be in militry
they are also strong like men.
men & women both r equal.

Rei
I honestly don't believe in military, but.... in all fairness women should be allowed in the military because we deserve equal rights. Women spent years fighting fo equality in the country and it is only fair that we are allowed in.
