I I've been wondering the same thing. People keep telling me that my son should apply to the military academies because they offer a free education. I don't want him to put his life at risk fighting whatever war the government chooses.

I served under the first Bush. I decided to leave the military during the Clinton administration because I was told to remove the American flag from my uniform.

I would rather serve under a leader who wants to win and gives me the tools to do so. I could not serve with a cut and run type. With lives lost, we owe it to them to give them victory or their loss means nothing

Well if congress passes the bill for a draft. Both young men and women won't need to sign up volunteeraily. They will be drafted. And the young women too. And even if you are in college. They will draft you,....
And nobody is stupid for joining the service. We can't judge those who join willingly under this adminstration even if you think it is wrong.....Look at this way.
For those who go now, then you may not need to go......

If I was younger I would be proud to put MY life on the line for my country once again. This might be a total surprise to you but your freedom is not free it was paid for by the blood of past veterans that did that very thing. If we all were cowards like you we would not have the freedom that is now available to you. Well considering the re enlistment into any of the armed forces is the highest its ever been, i would say our soldiers know some thing you don't. But then again i guess that wouldn't be saying much, now would it?

I tried to get back in again, too old too busted up.
You don't join because you like the person in the White House. You join for your Mom & Dad, your neighbor, and the guy acorss the country you don't even know. And because you couldn't stand the thoought of someone pullling your share of the load in life. If you won't join the military, join the Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, etc. Do something for someone other than yourself.

As far as paying your taxes, citizenship just starts there.

Bush has actually done a lot for our troops. Rapidly fielding new equipment to possibly save lives. Much better than going to Somalia, Macedonia, Bosnia under Clinton.

Only gung ho want to be Marines and Army girly men want to join the service to go and fight in a land who had nothing to do with 9-11. However, they (USA military ) isn't doing a very good job.
