Soldier, getting married, wife need new ss card with her new last name?

I'm in the military and I know once I get married I need her social security card, birth certificare and marriage licence to get the ball rolling but... does she need a new social security card with her new name on it? Might be a dumb question because maybe you don't even need to change your name on your ss card but I need to make sure.

No - you are not required to wait for the New Social Security Card to "register" her in Deers! Just take her current one, Picture ID, and Marriage License. |

No she does need to get a new ss card if she is taking your name.My husband filed the necessary paper work with my previous name because it was taking longer to get the new ss card then expected, and after I got it he had to go back and change my name on the papers that's all.
You are probably better off speaking with your chain of command though. They will be able to tell you every thing that you are going to need.

No you don't, you just need a copy of the card itself showing the # often you can use a certified copy. She can then get it changed. You should get multiple copies of the marriage certificate so that she can do it all.
Now for getting ID card 2 pieces of ID are required, not 1. They changed that within the past year. |

No you do not need a SS card. When you take your wife to the ID card facility, they will only ask for 1 proof of identification. They will understand that you are recently married and you are going thru the name changing process.
One last thing. Make sure that you also get her hooked up with a new passport with her new name as well. One day, you may want to PCS overseas and she will need a passport that matches her ID card. .
Don't forget to enroll her in Tricare. Go with Tricare Prime if you'll be living close to or on a base with a good hospital.

If she is going to take your last name, yes, but it easy. There is a form for it, and if I remember you you send a copy of the marriage license and mail it all to the Social Security folks. Again, if I remember right, I got it from the folks when we registered her with DEERS. It was a long time ago though, just needed it when we did the taxes. |
