Well you can find out if there is a waiting list for post housing.
If you can pretty much move right into post housing, then you don't really have much to do.
If there is a waiting list, depending on how long it is.
IE: if its two weeks, then it would be better to wait for the house on post to open up, before bringing your wife up.
But if it is a long waiting list, then you can start looking for an apartment to live in, maybe even put a deposit down or get the apartment right before you go on leave.
You can also find out, the number to call for cable, phone, elec, so you already know who to call.
Depending on if she has furniture, you can look where to buy furniture, a bed, dish's, pots and pans,
IE: everything you will need to start a household.
Find out, where the local bank, grocery stores, etc are at, closest to the apartment you want to live in.
You can easily find what your BAH rate will be online, use that when looking for an apartment.
You can find out how much cable, phone, internet, elec cost in the area.
That way you can start planning your budget, don't forget the cost of gasoline, since you will probally be driving more.
If your future wife has a job skill, you can start looking at places where she might work.
The more research you do now, the easier it will be once she gets there.
If she has furniture, etc, then find out how much a one way U-haul will cost to move it up there and how long the drive will take you.
Its not gonna be cheap.
You can also, find out specificly which offices you need to bring paper work to and what paperwork, to get her an id card, registered in deers, get your housing allowance started.
If you can actualy get the forms now, you can have them filled out and ready to go.
No she doesn't need any screening to move there. |

There is not much you can do before you are actually married. You could go ask housing what the wait list is like, so you know if you should just look for off base housing.
The military will NOT pay for her to move there, not a penny. She is considered an acquired dependent. SO start saving for the move as soon as you can.
After you get your certified copy of the marriage license you can take that, her SS card & birth certificate in and have her added as a dependent. Sometimes it takes a couple of paycheck to get your BAH.
Remember she will be automatically added to TriCare but not dental. You will have to add her to that separately.
Not sure about a med & dental screening for Alaska. If your CO can't tell you ask one of the married guys in your unit. |
