Because I support you guys, but don't support the war. If I wasn't 13 I'd probably go over there to help non-militarily - as a doctor.

War is my chosen profession. You would probably be offended if I said I support you, but don't support you being in school.

Not one bit. Some of my fellow members feel the same way. And they are entitled to their opinions. But we all agree we signed up voluntarily. So we continue to press on with the task at hand.

No, not offended one bit. You have the right to your own opinions and thoughts.

My husband is. My friends are. Especially the ones who have been down range. They'd rather people support them, and then keep their mouths shut about a war they know nothing about.

I'm not in the military, but my brother in law is. He's not offended, he just thinks you're wrong. You don't want the troops harmed that's not the same as supporting them.

Bistro
if you support the troops you have to support everything they do. Even if you dont agree with it. Supporting and agreeing are two different things. I do understand your point and so do many others.

if you don't support the war, then you can't support "the troops"
i can understand your feeling of not wanting people to die and you have the right to your opinion about the war,but soldiers fight in wars sometimes-you have to be 100% behind it,or "supporting the troops" is just a vast, sweeping lie to make yourself feel good.

Yes, I feel its an isult. I have been in the miltary for 6 years and been deployoed or overseas twice. I do not believe the majority of America supports the troops or the war and if they do support the troops they must support what they do. If you do not support the war then given the chance you would vote to pull out and come home. in doing so you just caused EVERY soldier who died or was injured in the war to have done so for NOTHING! now you tell me is that supporting the soldiers?

IF you support the troops, then you have to support what they do. Whether it's this war or another one, war is what troops do in some form or the other. Quite honestly, who are you or anyone else to say if this war is right or wrong?? Have you been there?? Our troops have and on a daily basis, they post what good has come out of Iraq. They're the ones that are there. They believe in what they're doing. Yet, people on here call them liars and go on calling it "illegal" among other things. That's definitely NOT supporting the troops. Listen to what they say. Supporting the troops isn't conditional based on whether or not you believe in what they're doing or where they are. Support means unconditional and it especially means listening to what they have to say.

P.S. I should also say it's not a matter of just "following orders". We join being volunteers. Most of us love and believe in what we do. We are by no means "brainwashed" as so many disbelieves love to fall back on. We all have free thought and know the career choice we made and we know what changes we're making in Iraq as well.

I'm no longer a solider, but I don't think you can support the troops and be against the war at the same time. If you support the troops, then you have to stand behind them 100% in everything they do as the other posters to this question mentioned.

If you do not support the war then you are adding fuel to the fire for all the anti troops and anti war protesters out there, and therefore not helping the troops one bit.

The troops have to know that America is behind them in what they do. If you are not behind them in the war, then why are they there.

You can't support someone when you are totally against what they are doing. If you don't support the war, and want the troops to come home, then you should just say that, because you don't support them. I heard that "support the troops, not the war" line a lot while I was in Iraq, and I hated it. If you really supported the troops, you would want them to stay in Iraq and finish the job they were sent to do.

I just don't believe half of the people that say that because of their track record of not supporting the military.

You're darn right we are!! And thank you for your support !!!

I see anybody who claims to 'support the troops but oppose the war' as hypocrites.

How can you support me if you are working to destroy everything I have done?

GERMANs 1938: "I do not support the war but I support the NAZI "

The rest is history.

I think it's possible to support the troops and not the war. I support the troops because I think it takes a lot of courage to go out and make that sacrifice for your country. However, I think this occupation of Iraq is illegal and had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 and they shouldn't be there. So while I support the individual troops, I don't support the government that put them out there.

This question is valid, however the answers have sort of a paradoxical effect. The answers claim that if you support our troops then you should support whatever they do.

Let me remind everyone that all millitary personnel are under ORDERS. and they are trained to do what they are told without asking any questions. They cannot aggree or disagree with any of the orders.

So it is possible to support them for doing their jobs and not agree with the war. If the above statements are correct then do you support the torture and hummiliation of detainees? Do you support the murders some soldiers are being charged with? You do support our troops dont you? If some rogue US President instituted martial law to send troops to keep people in the US from voting you would support the martial law right? because you support the troops right? Wrong. They would be under orders.

Republicans are trying to portray the myth that anyone who is against the war is anti-millitary and does not support our troops. This is like saying that if you dont support our presidents ideas then you are anti-american..
