Officer-Money isn't really a concern but I read that officers get a basic officer pay+allowances. My question is, how much are these allowances?
AFROTC- Will glasses be an issue while in ROTC, if so, should I get contacts?
Officer- I'm going to majoring in Aerospace Engineering, are my chances high for getting an engineering related job such as building/testing/launching rockets or developing new systems/satellites/aircraft?
AFROTC- I'm sure I will have to contact the detachment for this one but perhaps one of you guys know. Im currently ~220 lbs. for my height the weight/height requirement is ~186-190 lbs. If Im a just over the requirement(say 5lbs or less), will I be allowed in?

I'm still working on the weight, lost about 25lbs since Feb.

1. Allowances depend on your career field, rank, location, etc.
I receive BAS and BAH (food/housing and that's it.) Still better than a stick in the eye.
2. Lots of my cadets wear glasses/contacts.
3. If Aerospace Engineering at your university is accredited by ABET, you will be considered for 62EX1 (Engineering AFSC).
4. While you are over your max, you will be allowed to attend class/lab but you will be categorized as a special student. No uniform, cannot be nominated for scholarship, may not be allowed on base visits, etc. And like the other poster mentioned, its a strain to carry extra weight when you are doing laps etc.
EDIT: You would not be a special student if you can pass the bodyfat. |

You get 250 bucks a month 1st year 300 2nd and so on.
Get contacts. Glasses will be all over the place during PT.
Your chances are very high. You wont be a pilot due to your vision, you wont be an ATC or supplier because of your intelligence. You may get a repair job though.
YOU NEED TO LOOSE WEIGHT. Running will be a ***** for you. At least get to 195. They will give you a waiver if your 195, but any higher than that and you probably wont get in.

Get inside the weight range. Officers are pilots and the fighters are not designed to carry excess weight. It's your rear in the other guys sights. Do you want to manoeuvre fast or slow?
Vision will be the problem not glasses. You will need to meet the vision requirements which will only be slightly off 20/20 uncorrected.
Your employment options should be good if you have majored in the field while at university.
If you don't get an officer answering the money question, then ask at the recruiting office. I won't guess. |
