Some military questions, please answer?

My son just texted me. This was his exact message, "AFQT Score=52 Mom." Can someone please give me details as to what goes on from here? He confuses me and is very bad at explaining it, but I am just a worried mother. He said the National Guard will offer him jobs based on that score and that he will have 8 weeks training and then school for however long, I don't know. Can someone please help me, I am just so confused and I am in desperate need of answers. What are the possible jobs for my son? How long will he spend away at school and where will this schooling be? Etc.

For starters he barely made the minimum cutoff score of 50 needed for enlistment but at least he made it.

They will offer him available jobs near his (your) home based on his score. The Guard is overstrength (by 10K folks nationwide) so his choices may be limited.

He will take a physical and they will conduct a background check on him. If he makes it through that process he will be given a selection of jobs as explained before.

After he enlist he will be scheduled for basic which is 10 weeks and AIT which will vary depending on his MOS from 6 - 20 weeks. His MOS will determine where he goes to basic and AIT.

Edit: For the Guard it will dpend on where you live and what units are in your area (generally for new kids within 50 miles commute or closer) AND if they have openings in specific MOSs. There is no telling as it can change daily as new people get in and people get out. It will literaly be down to the day he ships to MEPS before that is known.

This is the arena I work in, authorizing bonuses for new enlistees and track unit vacancies.

he is in first stages of enlisting. he took asvab, next will be a complete physical at MEPS (military entrance processing), then he will sit down with a contractor and pick his job and enlist. (if he decides to) once he signs contract he is in. They will tell him when and where he leaves for Basic which could be ft.sill, OK. ft. benning, GA. ft, knox,KY, Ft Jackson, (dont know what state) or ft. lenn wood. that will be roughly 10 1/2 weeks, they added a week to basic and reception is 4 days to a week, totaling 10 1/2. next will be AIT where he will learn his job, this could be anywhere across country and could vary from 8-52 weeks depending on what job. with a 52 he wil get some decent jobs but not all are open to him, a contractor will tell him what he is elligible for.
