Someone please help! Westboro baptist church, to picket a local soldiers funeral?

First off, Fred Phelps and his "church" members know their rights like the back of their hand. I had to see these people alot while my husband was in Iraq, and it made it all the worse. Call up the Patriot Guard, ask them to attend, let them know that the westboro people are going to be there. Also, hang up signs around your community asking any other bike riders to join if they can. Also ask for support from just everyday people, to line as much of the road by just standing there with American Flags.

I was reading other peoples answers and just wanted to say that they are silent protesters.

Go to the funeral. Spend a lot of time praying in the meantime, asking God to give you strength and peace so that you will be able to contain yourself when the time comes. These sick people feed off of the negative attention and when they get one person to stay away from a funeral, they have succeeded in their mission. Do not give them that privilege. Do not deprive this honorable soldier of having as many people as possible there at his funeral, honoring his life and offering condolences to his family.

These people recently picketed in North Carolina, near Camp Lejeune. Do you know what Camp Lejeune did in return? They set up their own rally. They set up a military celebration scheduled for the exact date and time as their protest. A friend of mine who is a war widow was a part of that celebration and when I hear these stories I think of her and how strong and admirable she was when she stated that she would not allow these people to accomplish what they so hatefully set out to do. She did not let their protesting ruin her day or get her down. Instead she took herself and her children down to the military celebration to prove to these people that they can protest all they want but they can't bring us down. You do the same.

Just goes to show that religious intolerance, on their part, is something that we no longer have to suffer. They recently lost a court ruling for them to have to pay 10 or 12 million dollars to the family of a soldier, who's funeral they picketed. I am pretty sure that if there is enough pressure from the police and say ......... the local motor cycle "club" I am certain they will leave the area :)

When my unit got back from Iraq they had been picketing at Ft Campbell for a few days. When along happened the local chapters of the VFW, Dav, and believe it or not the ACLU! They were politely told to leave before any trouble happened. Which it was averted by simply having a guard posted across the road from them and the anti-protesters doing a fabulous job of heckling them. All in all the soldiers at the time on post were basically ordered to not do "anything rash" .

These people are no longer protected under the Freedom of Speech act. As proved by the ruling against them last year. So feel free to get rich and sue the crap out of them. And if you cant do that send me an e-mail if you get arrested I will bail you out.

seriously. They (the Patriot Guard Riders) take on the burden of dealing with and drowning out the hatred coming from these idiots (peacefully) and allowing the family and community to be able to mourn their loss as they should.

If you could find out who the band of bikers are that will attend and help to block them out, I think that is your best bet. I think they are mostly made of a vets. Good luck, I am so sorry. My husband is in the Army and I don't understand how anyone could be so low.

These people are seriously going to end up hurt or killed at some point. It's a given. There is only so far you can push people.

I know if I saw them doing that stuff in-person... I seriously don't know if I could stop myself from hurting them - and I have some amount of self-control. It's only a matter of time before someone with less self-control than myself does something. And they'll deserve it.

Last I checked they have the right to protest just as long as they don't hinder the rights of any one else. That being said if at any time you feel that the are hindering your rights use the constitution which they abuse.

Isn't it funny (odd) how they protest against this country all the time yet they still enjoy the freedoms which we give them.

Contact the local chapter of the "Patriot Guard" They are a motorcycle club made up of good people, including a lot of U.S. Veterans. They will certainly help you! Just go to google and type in Patriot Guard. There's tons of info there. Good luck and God bless you.

I just went to a ramp ceremony a month ago here in Iraq. What i do understand is why someone would want to picket a funeral of someone who paid the ultimate sacrifice for others with there life. If they don't agree with thte war, then they should go protest in Washington. But to disrespect someone who paid the ultimate respect is just wrong. This is so said and i feel sorry for the fallen soldier and his family. I wish I could salute the coffin to show my respects to a fellow soldier. Knowing people back home are doing this and other horrible things like burning our flag is sad.

or better yet park infront of them and if they move then park again infront of them. They are not allowed to stand on the street since that for vehicles only and are limited to the side walk.

Contact the Patriot Guard. They will form a cordon between the funeral and the Westboro monkeys. And if they do not have a permit, the cops will arrest them.

Maybe someday somebody will start smoking them mother f'ers.

It just lets me sleep better at night knowing, the only reason they're allowed to do this stuff, is because of people like my fellow soldiers. Even if they hate us to death, we've got plenty more people that love us even more, and regardless, it's their right of freedom of speech, and it's not what they say that I'm worried about, it's making sure they can say it.

i am also a christian who thinks these people are nuts. they are warping Christ's message into a message of hate. i would go to the funeral and try my best to ignore them. unfortunately they do have a right to protest even if what they are doing is stupid. it is very hard to not hate people like this. but remember, Jesus taught that we should love our enemies as well as our friends. be strong. go to the funeral. if you let these people keep you away are drive you to hate them, then the enemy has already won. There is a motorcycle organization that will show up at these funerals and make sure they stay their distance, I don't remember what their name is, but maybe a Military organization would know you could try and contact the branch of service this soldier was in and they might know or call the local news stations in your are they should know.
A father of a fallen soldier just sued these nuts and won.
I know it is hard when we encounter these type of people, but remember Jesus told us we don't wrestle with flesh and blood, but the powers of darkness, pray and remember we see these people just as mean and crazy people, they have no idea they are tools of Satan, believe me when you can get the spirit of your understanding open, you really have to feel sorry for these people because they have no idea what has happen to them and what will happen on Judgment day and remember God said,"Vengeance is mine, I will repay"
and there is noting you can do, that God cannot do more.
And another thing to remember, when Jesus was taken before Pilate and wrongfully accused He didn't open His mouth to defend Himself, so if Jesus could keep silent when falsely accused, surly we can keep silent concerning these nuts. If you do something that will send your soul to hell, you will have to spend eternity with the very people you can't stand. God bless and good luck.

The people of Westboro "church" are freaks of nature, I agree. I would call the police and have them stopped. Would anyone do that? These people are really getting to be to much.

Contact the local VFW hall. Many of them have groups of veterens in a bike club and they will go the the funeral and make a human wall to block out the picketers as best they can. You may want to suggest to the family of the soldier to ask the funeral parlor to put up a tent over the burial site, again to help block the protestors from view and to play some music to help cut down the noise. I would also alert the local law enforcement that you expect protestors (print the notice from the website if you can) and would like to have an officer or two at the burial to be sure things do not get out of hand. The worst thing you can do is react to these people..don't yell back, don't flip them off, don't even look at them. Go and pay your respects..in the end thier hate will catch up to them.

They are disgusting and want cheap publicity at the expense of a grieving family whose son has made the greatest sacrifice of all and they have the gall to call themselves Christians.

Best ignore them and don't waste your time and energy on them they don't deserve it and save your respect and gratitude for those that do the soldiers.

I was hoping they would turn up for Heath Ledgers funeral our government would have locked them up because they wouldn't have been able to hide behind the American Constitution in Australia gutless wimps didn't show though.
