Special Forces, Green Berets joining what to start working on?

So I am going to try and join the Green Berets in the future, I am still only a freshman in high school. I read the web page on goarmy.com but I would like some more information before I see the recruiter. What I want to know is what should I start working on right now to have more chances in the Green Berets?
First thing I know every one will put is grades well i almost finished with my freshman year so i don't know my GPA but I do know that i always make either an "A" or a high "B".
Also I run cross country to keep myself fit but I will have to work more on upper body in the future.
Another thing I would like to know is what type of training am I going to go through? I read the web page but I am not sure what all of them exactly are.
The last question is do I go to college before going to training if so what courses and colleges do u suggest?

Thanks for any answers sorry I had so much.

Sorry I forgot a question.

At Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) you will be required to do a LOT of ruck marching (long hikes with a heavy ruck sack on your back). Best thing you can do to prepare is get used to having that wieght on your back and be able to go at least 25 miles.
When I was training for SFAS I would run and do calasthenics (push ups, sit ups, pull ups) one day, the next day go on a 5 to 8 mile ruck march with a 65 pound ruck sack, then on either Saturday or Sunday when I had the time (I was in the regular Army at the time) go on a long ruck march 15 to 20 miles. I would also rest one day a week, usually the day after the long ruck march. This training plan worked, for me anyway.
Sounds like you already know that there is more to being Special Forces than just being physicaly fit. You also have to be smart, self confident, and brave. You should go camping by your self a few times to find out if you are comfortable in the woods by yourself. I saw some good soldiers not make it through SFAS because they got out in the deep dark woods of North Carolina and got a little freaked out by the solitude. I enjoyed doing things by myself. Anyway, learning a foreign language is a plus. All SF soldiers have to learn one but if you already know one it could shorten the amount of time you spend in training before going to an A-team. Martial arts arent that important to learn, they will teach you that in the Q course. If Being in Special Forces is what you really want I would recomend that you do not waste time with college. Only advantage would be that you could be an officer, but there are some drawbacks to being an officer in SF. Officers cannot even try out for SF until they are First Lieutenants, that takes a couple of years. Once on a SF team the officer only is allowed to be on a team for 2 years until being transferred to a Staff job behind a desk. But if you are enlisted you can stay on a SF A team practically for your entire career.
Also like AM said in her answer, there is the 18X program. This is the current fast track program for Army Special Forces. When you go talk to the Army recruiter tell him you want 18X and you will be trying out for SF in no time.

Do you want to be enlisted or an officer in the SF? You can be both. Here is how you can become a green beret.

1. You can't even try out for it until you are an E4 or above, so most enlisted green berets don't become one until they've been in at least 3 years.
2. Starting now, learn a second language and take some martial art.
3. If you enlist, do so during your senior year of high school so you start Basic Training within a month of graduating.
4. All green berets are also paratroopers, so get Jump School guaranteed in your contract. http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/airborne.html
5. Pick a combat arms mos. You might be able to get Ranger School thrown in.
6. Near the end of your first enlistment, you have two options. You can reenlist and get a chance to try out for the green berets, or you can go into the Reserves or National Guard so you can take ROTC in college. Four years later, you will have your degree, and you will be a Second Lieutenant. Once you are back into active duty, continue your pursuit of the green berets. You will only be 26-28 years old by then.

FIrst let me tell you your grade don't mean a thing if you go enlisted. Everyone takes the ASVAB test, and that's what counts, not your grades. All the military cares about for enlisted is that you were actually able to graduate high school.

You should check out the 18X enlistment option. This gives you the guaranteed chance to try out for SF. Remember it's a chance not a guarantee. The wash out rate is high.

Go to college if you plan to go in as an officer.

Google Army 18X enlistment option and you can read all about the training, requirements, ect.

For special forces I would strongly reccomend fitness fitness and MORE fitness, also mathmatics and literacy skills just incase.

He immigrated to the USA in 1996. Works at a GM plant. Admitted he served in the North Vietnam army and killed Americans. But he was just following orders.
