Stop Loss for troops now heading to Iraq?

My husband has been in the National Guard for 9 years. He is currently on active orders as of May 1 and will return to Iraq for the second time around the middle of June. His "time" will be up in January 2010 and he is not signing back up along with MANY others in his brigade. My question is what is the current status on Stop Loss since supposedly a bill was signed putting an end to it. They have been told the following and do not know what to believe:
1. If they are overseas when their time is "up" they will receive an additional $500 a month until they return home and are no longer on orders.
2. When their time is "up", they will be given the choice of signing back up again and staying the duration of the tour or they will be sent back home.
Anyone who has dealings with the military understand how many conflicting stories you get. I'm just wondering if anyone has some personal knowledge and experience concerning it. Thanks!

IF he is stop lossed YES he will get $500/mo.
He will most likely stay for the term of his deployment (what his orders say).

the "work around" for being stop lossed is "involuntary extension". which if you read your contract says can happen to you without compensation. so if he is getting deplyed middle of this year and the deployment is for a year, then he can ETS when he gets back. |

1. If he's held on stop-loss he'll get the money.
2. He's not likely to be given the choice.
Stop loss existed LONG before the conflict in Iraq and it will exist LONG after. It's part of the contract that everyone signs. |

my thoughts are they will make him do his tour til duration and then worry later about getting him home, sinc ehe is a reservist, anyoen else have an opinion? I have been screwed over alot by the army and if he gets screwed there is always IG and EO, my NCO's always knew the REGs, and they always thought to get reminded of REGs after the fact by IG or EO, because the mission came first above all else. |
